Of course the NCAA is going to PUBLICLY state that they have nothing to do with it. They want to come off as the innocent bystander in all this.

But if you look back at all the major renovation projects done over the years at Rosenblatt, guess who went to the city and said "we want this, this and this"? This just in . . . it wasn't the tooth fairy.

Don't buy for one minute what the NCAA is selling regarding their non-involvement in this.

Part cynicism, part paranioa. I'm sorry if that offends you Seahawk but that is exactly what your angle is.

I know you like to bash on his media background, but the reality in what he is saying is pretty dead on, I think.

So Mike Fahey is just swallowing crow to be a good little soldier, while recall petitions are being gathered and his name is drug through the mud?

Is there really that much opposition?

There is a recall petition circulating...there is a recall website.

Again, I'm not sure if it's the opposition, or that the citizens feel they've been lied to.......lack trust.

So he's just taking one for the "team". I'm just not sure I'm buying that.

Would the NCAA want a new stadium? Absolutely.
Did they give Omaha an ulimatum of new stadium or lose the CWS? I have my doubts.

I guess I don't see why you're hung up on this single aspect.

There is also a website supporting the new stadium idea: http://www.ourfound.com/

There were too many unanswered questions in the beginning that have fueled a lot of the fire for those who want to keep it at Rosenblatt, which has resulted in the ill-advised recall drive (the mayoral election is a year away, so what good is it really to recall the mayor at this point, especially when the recall election would be held DURING the CWS???).

As for whether or not the NCAA gave Omaha an ultimatum...I really do want to believe that they didn't. Past history and personal knowledge of the NCAA won't allow me to, though...call it paranoia, healthy skepticism, whatever...

Well, the point there is merely to turn the burner up under his ass I think.

Wouldn't it be easier to just wait until next year and vote his ass out then?

I certainly understand the emotion behind people wanting to recall him, and that's the only reason -- there certainly isn't a logical one -- behind the recall effort. It's a waste of time, money and energy to hold a recall election now, and the timing of a recall election (in the middle of the CWS) would bring a negative vibe to a national audience.

From a logical standpoint, I agree. From a technical standpoint...it's not bad to beat the drum if you're that upset I suppose.

Again, I'm not hung up on the issue. The original post was calling those in opposition stupid f#cks. I am merely laying out that it appears, at least to me, that people have a reason to be dissatisfied as to how this whole thing went down. This stadium issue on top of a $1.5BB sewer project burden.....makes sense that I might be upset too if my elected leaders are not quite being up front about the whole thing.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Right, you and I generally agree. I just was curious what you were driving that point because it's kind of irrelevant in the sense that no one can really prove it.

To me, the horse the anti-stadium crowd should be riding is the one where the NCAA has publicly stated this is seemingly a non-issue in Omaha losing the bid and that there is no reason to think another 3 or 5 year proposal can't be earned with Rosenblatt to buy time to work out the build versus renovation debate.

Because the ONE thing I do side strongly with the pro-stadium crowd on is the fact that I am not sold on continual renovations to Rosenblatt. Not that the stadium itself is unsuitable, because it's not. Moreso due to the immediate surroundings in terms of parking, lodging and such.

But, at the end of the day, there is NO legitimate reason to rush any proposals through. And if the NCAA is TRULY as innocent as they are projecting then they should bend over backwards to work with Omaha on it.

The fact they haven't encouraged that on their own sides my suspicion more strongly with Seahawks.

Well, yes, I think I made that point earlier, and I guess, again, the so called ultimatum is not supported by comments made by the NCAA that the City will lose the CWS if it does not act now, which is what the fear mongering proponents seem to be suggesting.

But conversely, like I said, the NCAA has done the things that you'd think they'd be willing to do to totally shed that possibility either.

Why would they only take on proposal from the city?

Why wouldn't the pro-actively offer a short extension once public awareness raised concerns?

This sit back and wait approach they are taking is much more suggestive of something more sinister.

So, conversely you can't really blame people for having that mentality.

Lots of unanswered questions that will never be answered I guess. Personally, I don't have to pay for it and will certainly enjoy a new stadium when I attend the CWS. My main point all along is for people to stop chastizing those that wanted answers prior to moving forward. That includes Matt Perrault and Tim's insenstive comments.

It would have been nice to see a joint press conference (Fahey and the NCAA) where many of these questions could have been asked point blank and the facial expressions and studdering probably would have said a lot.

Dwight, you might be right that the Faheys wouldn't want to associate with someone who posts like I do, but it doesn't make what I said any less true.

I'll ask them when I'm on their yacht down in the Ozarks this summer.

(Now that's how you brag about something!!!)

And, I do say "seriously" too much. So conceded.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Like I said, we generally agree...I was more mining for more info. on your point is all.

I agree. From a logical perspective the pro-stadium crowd here has been largely bankrupt.

I think there is a plausible, reasonable case that can be made for a new stadium. It's just that the manner in which it's being trot out there now isn't it.

Right now the pro-stadium crowd is basically a handful of Omaha businessmen with the Mayor in their pocket who stand to make megabucks from its relocation supported by a largely emotional based reasoning crowd of people that just want a new stadium.

Them claiming the anti-stadium crowd is largely historical based emotionally charged rhetoric is laughable. Not that there aren't some out there, but at least the anti-stadium crowd has a logical, sensible reason outside of emotion to be against it.
