Ok, so now you are talking about Indiana and what is going to happen there when a few replies ago my response regarding the Indiana situation was promptly shot down with:
It was clear to me that I was angling this dead thread towards Sampson and the severity of his punishment versus his actions.
So, now that we're back to speculating about Sampson at Indiana...again...you are assuming he is going to get fired. Indiana is doing an investigation. The NCAA is doing an investigation. Nothing has happened yet...how about letting the investigations run their course before jumping to the conclusion that he's being fired prematurely. |

You are deliberately making this more complex than it is. You wanted me to cite the rule I take issue with?
Have I not stated that "phone calls by coaches" is what Sampson is in violation of? If you need the specific code # and section and the date it was voted in, I suggest you peruse the NCAA basketball rules site.
Sampson has multiple phone related violations against him. It would stand to reason you could articulate which particular rule you have issue with.
I never stated anything about sections of NCAA code. Can you not articulate which rule you have a problem with by simply identifying it in layman's terms?
Is that really too much to ask? |

How about taking off the "you offended me and my fragile ego" hat and getting on with things.
Funny thing, as I read your tiring tirade of nothing I am seeing that Dick Vitale is saying, "rules are rules, but this rule must be examined. Sampson is not a bad guy for calling recruits. Coaches call recruits all accross america and the NCAA has to start allowing a coach to be a coach."
Of course, I expect you to decipher that as Chinese so bring it.... |

Sampson has a track record, and Indiana KNEW that when they hired him. And yet, they hired him anyway and he reverted back to his previous behavior.
I'm not sure right now who the bigger idiot is here -- the people at the University of Indiana for hiring this known cheater, or Omahan for not having a clue about how the NCAA doesn't like it when people don't follow their rules to the letter. |

Seahawk, I understand the NCAA and you can grandstand all you'd like but my position is clear. I don't agree with the NCAA making it a violation worthy of costing a coach his job from making a phone call to a recruit. If he called the kid at 3AM hammered and slurring and threatened him, well. I am not the only person whom takes this stance.
So if I don't have a clue then I'm in good company. |

Omahan...what you fail to realize is that the NCAA doesn't give a flying Finnish fahk what YOU think of their rules regarding phone calls. In fact, they don't give one rat's ass what ANYBODY thinks.
It's their ball, and if you don't play their game and play it their way, they are going to take their ball away from you and make you sit in the corner until you DO play by their rules. And schools don't like it when employees don't follow the rules, ESPECIALLY the rules set forth by the NCAA. The NCAA is not about athletics and academics, as they like to make us think. They are all about money and power, and they have ALL of it.
Once you understand that, it all comes together. Best of luck... |

I get the harsh stance by the NCAA and that is exactly what I am referring to. You aren't tossing out new knowledge Seahawk. The NCAA is long been an organization not open to reason.
That is all I'm saying. Where did I state that I could change the rules? I didn't.

Well, they do care what the NACB says which acts as a collective voice for college coaches. An organization that formed an ethics committee specifically designed to address the issue of recruiting which Kelvin, himself, allowed to be formed under his tenure as President of the NACB.
Which is almost so ironic it's comical.

And I agree with you, the NCAA makes Communism look like a free and open society. I've had to deal with some of the flunkies within the NCAA organization during my days in the media, and they don't like it when their decisions are questioned. And if you ask for a clairification, the basic response is BECAUSE I SAID SO, I'M THE NCAA, DAMMIT.
The bottom line is, you play by the NCAA's rules or you get the hook. |

And, actually, he stated costing Sampson his job...which, to my knowledge, the NCAA hasn't ever handed out that punishment to Sampson or alluded to that being his punishment with Indiana.
