http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3313069 I have mixed feelings on this one...first off, I think it's a bit ironic that the timing of this coincided with a bad performance. I don't think it's fair to say it cost him the win. That being said, it is against PGA rules to snap during the swing. So, technically, he is right. He certainly didn't handle it well. I think the vulgarity and temper tantrum we could do without. |

Think back for a minute, how many times have you been working on something or accomplish something and you are totally locked in and focused. Then somebody comes along and says something to disract you. don't tell em this has never happened to any of you. Hell, it happened to me all the time in college while i was studying or working on a paper. roomate would come in say something, turn the TV up way too loud. Things like that happen. Golf is a game of intense focus and concentration. how pissed off would any of you guys be if you were playing golf with you buddies with money on the line, and they flash their man breast while you in the lining up a game winning putt??? Did tiger over react, maybe, but how much more money does tiger win for 1st place than where he finished?
on a side note, its nice to see a new thread every now and then. |

There is no "maybe". He overreacted.
However, the handful of 3-putts had more to do with him not winning than this shot on 9 did.
Like I said, I agree with Tiger on the issue from a technical perspective, but I also think that it's something you have to be able to endure as a professional golfer.
What's interesting is that this is a kid that was raised with a Father that trained him for these types of things. He used to throw tees down and other things in the middle of his swing when he was younger. |

I know I get extremely irritated when my golfing buddies are popping beers while I'm trying to hit a perfect fade. I can totally relate where he is coming from. I say hire a hitman and take the guy out! That'll teach him for f#cking with the Tiger. And yeah, I totally feel for Tiger. This tournament will probably reduce his income this year to $195MM with endorsements. I'M OUTRAGED! |

Also, I would submit that the money had little, if any, bearing on it. Tiger is a competitor and if he blew up for any reason it was his competitive nature, not his desire to win a couple hundred thousand or so more.
I used to be the same way about losing...although, I never took my frustration out on a camera man during an event. Well, at least intentionally...I bowled one over catching a pass in the end zone once, but that was strictly an occupational hazard on his part. |

That's just how Tiger is wired. Other than Jordan, has there ever been someone so competitive? His intensity extends everywhere -- his training, his game, and his blow-ups when people take his picture at inopportune times. I've seen Tiger hit GOOD shots, and still glare down a fan/photographer who snapped during a backswing. By my standard, that was an overreaction, but given who Tiger is, it doesn't surprise me. It's part of what makes him so great, as weird as that sounds.
Put it this way -- Tiger is so competitive that if he was taking a driving test, and the driving instructor sneezed while he was parallel parking, Tiger would put him in a coma. |

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

Following the season, I had a cast placed on my ear, re-shaping the cartilage. My ears are as good as new. Always wear your headgear. |

| I'm waiting for one of these "victims" of Tiger's wrath to sue him for intentional infliction of emotional distress. |

Actually, now there are YouTube videos demonstrating how to drain it at home...even better... |

Yeah, I don't know...I think most of the feedback I am reading is pro-Tiger on this issue despite the way he handled it, but it would be kind of funny just to see that process take place. |

I watched a couple of hours of that tournament on Sunday. Those cameraman and photographers were constantly (and only to Tiger it seemed) taking shots during putts or chips. It drives me insane when friends talk suddenly when I am putting.
I know that snapping is never the answer in the end. But he is human even though he is the greatest golfer of all time and he does have a right to express his emotions. The vulgarity will get him into trouble.
I have no problem with his behavior. Screw those guys that scream during silence at tennis matches and snap photos off during a golfers putting regime.
They deserve to be dealt with.

| IMO, it wouldn't have mattered if he were in last place in the tournament either. He has a right to silence to concentrate. |

Posted By egami on 03/26/2008 2:20 PM something you have to be able to endure as a professional golfer. That egami is ridiculous! That's like saying Greg Louganis should have to buck up and take it if someone had chucked a boomerang airborne in the path of his dives. Not realistic to say you must overcome that type of activity. That is why instant replay was invented in the mainstream sports. IMO, I agree like bad referee calls in baseball, basketball and football, it happens. But that's as far as it travels. In no way, shape or form should a golfer playing at the PGA level have to endure concentration issues from the fans. If you play at Elmwood and a drunk dude belts out during your swing that's one thing. But while playing for all the marbles on the games biggest stage, maybe a mullie should be offered. Do I detect a hint of Anti-Tiger from you egami? Just asking. |

No, actually I have been a Tiger fan since he arrived on the scene and quite frankly this outburst has lowered my opinion of him. Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't seem the same since his father passes away. And historically he's been much, much more calm under pressure. I've been to two or three events over the years and I know it's happened to him before. It's been going on for some time and now all the sudden I get the feeling he is throwing his weight around about the problem because he knows he knee-jerk reacted to the situation. |

Of course he has been affected by it. Mr. Woods was the #1 influence on his life I don't understand how you can believe he was better under pressure in the past. He won how many in row leading up to this past weekend? I'd say he was performing fairly well under pressure. |
