Street thugz who can't make free throws.

Can't wait for the meltdown at the Final Four.

That's the type of up tempo game that he decided to play with Memphis. Full court pressing, fast breaking, over playing of passing lanes, etc. And, to accomplish that style of play you need to have athletes.

Those "street thugz" are still undefeated after sqeaking one out with UAB. You're probably right about the free throw situation and how it will effect their chances in the Big Dance.

But you never know, like Drake, Memphis has been a surprise this season anyway.

No meltdown last nite turducken. Just two athletic teams running up and down the floor with great skill and desire. Shots just didn't fall at the end for Memphis.

Good game.

Yep, FOUL shots.

And Joey Dorsey is a thug. Getting in the face of a guy at the line before he shoots. This ain't street ball in The Bronx.

You'd do the same thing. It's called distraction. Free throws take concentration. field goals were the achilles for Memphis(39%) That and they hit 8 3-pointers in the first half and none in the second.

You can talk trash while lined up in the box, but to walk up to the shooter while he's at the line is plain stupid. Now I'm not so sure the Tigers can even make the Final Four.

I knew Tennessee was golden after Digger Corso picked Memphis to win.

Hats off to Tennessee!

Ex Hawkeye coach (Bruce Pearl) and Ex Hawkeye player (Tyler Smith) = No. 1 Team in the nation when the polls come out.

Why do they both fall under the "ex" category? I know Smith father's situation but Pearl?

A long time assistant under Tom Davis, actually when Alford left Iowa City, Bruce was contacted about the coaching job in Iowa City. Reportedly his wife loved it in IC and they still have many friends there.

It's not Calipari's fault. Like kicking field goals in football, you cannot effect that skill in large part. Either they can shoot 'em or not.

Kansas lucked out!

Dutchess did you not read Calipari's recent statement downplaying the importance of free throws in your copy of the Baltimore Sun?

If not, this should've triggered something.

Why they didn't foul KU before they could get a shot off at the end is something I'll never understand. No timeouts left, and even if they make two, foul Memphis on the inbounds and put them back on the line, they would have less than 4-5 seconds to go the length of the floor and get any kind of shot off.

Of course, it's all a moot point if John Calipari would have spent just a little more time in practice working on free throws and defense...but then again, that makes sense.

Although I certainly think Memphis choked, you have to give credit to Kansas and Chalmers for knocking down that shot at the end to put it into OT. And from there, the momentum carried them, and the let down crippled Memphis the rest of the game.

Calipari is a good coach, but he certainly didn't show it in the final minutes of regulation.
