3 1/2 kids. Good for you. My wife and I are going to start trying next year. She's 25, so we have time. Although, I have this nighmarish vision of me being the 90 year old dad at the college graduation of my firstborn. You're lucky you don't have to worry about that.

Thanks, yeah...you know it's funny, we joke everytime about "well, we just restarted the 18-year timer".

I am glad we had kids when we did, but I don't generally agree with people that perpetuate the idea that holding off is a bad idea.

You guys have been able to enjoy a lot of autonomy that will be infringed on when you have kids.

But, don't worry...it's a good thing.

I won't be 90 but I'll be 60. Let me give you some advice. Have children while your still relatively young.

I can't keep up with my 2 young ones and can't do some of the things I could have done if we had started in our late 20's or early 30's.

At 42, bi lateral carpul tunnel surgery, bad back, cervical spine surgery issues, arthritis, torn rotator cuff, catch in ankle.

HAVE KIDS WHEN YOUR YOUNG!

Crit, Totally agree with you there. I blew my knee out right before my 34th BDay playing Dodgeball of all things during PT at a Reserve drill weekend. I got 10 percent disability on that knee, which in VA standards is the equivalent of getting a purple heart (purple heart recepients are in the 10 % disability for minor injuries sustained in combat) in order of how fast the VA sees you when you need to be seen. My other knee is now giving me all sorts of problems even though I have never tore anything in it and I also have fibromyalgia across the shoulders and a bad disc in my neck. I am 40 now and it kills to sit on the floor for any length of time doing things with the kids and then having to get up and walk. You know it is bad when you have to grunt out an "OY" just to go to a standing position.

Yeah SCW, I have the same problem with getting on the floor and playiing a game with my kids. Give me 5 minutes to get up. With your cervical disk, have you had it checked out? Before I had surgery, I spent 5 months of about 2-3 hours of sleep at night, as I had so much pain in my arm down to my fingers that I just couldn't take it anymore. The same with the carpul tunnel. I had both hands done 2 months ago, at the same time vs. spending the extra time and money doing it twice.

I was supposed to have rotator cuff surgery a year ago, but I have been putting it off, as I'm told the recovery time is 3 months and I just can't do that right now. Now, my most recent MRI shows arthritis setting in on my shoulder and my cervical disk.

My ankle is interesting. About 5 times a month I will get a catch in it and can't put weight on it. I got it again last week, couldn't get it back in. Finally after my chiropractor spent 10 minutes on it with no success, I was able to get it back in place myself.

Now after 3 years of no problems, my lower back has gone out once again. I've spent many a session on a chiropractic traction table, which it appears I am heading towards again.

Most of my problems have materialized over the last 5 years. I complain to my wife often about not starting to have kids until my mid to late 30's, as my quality/active time with them now is so limited. I guess it was a choice between financial/professional success before kids. The positive is that my wife has been able to take a break from her professional life to stay at home with our kids, which in this day and age, we feel very fortunate. Her health is good, so she seems to keep up with it all.

My chiropractor, who is young, thinks I'm a walking anatomy test case.

But back to topic, I was a way better athlete in my day than these kids today. Well, maybe not better, as most of my problems stem from 18 years of competetive sports, competing when I probably shouldn't have been. But it was a different time then.......if you were 75 to 80%, you played.

This thread is being laid out there to gather you guys thoughts on the comparisons of athletes from the "Good Ole Days" to the "Modern Day" guys.
I get tired of old codgers saying Babe Ruth could out hit Barry Bonds or Bob Cousy could outplay Kobe Bryant. They scream "Red Grange!" and many other players from days gone by. I mean no disrespect to the older generation, I simply do not see the comparison atal. Hell, Cousy couldn't even dribble with his left hand, Kobe -vs- Cousy in heydey's and it's 10-0 Kobe by ones and make it, take it. Jim Brown -vs- Barry Sanders, now this one tends to bring some realistic comparison, however, I still take the modern day guy.
And while I understand that in 25 years the guys will be even bigger and faster, thus reinventing the wheel. What do you guys think? Is there even a reason to have the conversation comparing the athletes of the past to the current ones? I think it is not a fair comparison.
Modern Day Athlete - Hands Down.

And 25 years from now old codgers will be saying that Kobe, Jordan, and Tiger were just as good as the athletes in 2032.

I agree the modern day athlete is usually better all around than those from the old days.

Maybe Ted Williams in his prime would be the exception?

It's my fault," said first-year Nebraska coach Bo Pelini. "Damn right, yes, I'm embarrassed. I apologized to the team. I apologize to the state of Nebraska. I apologize to everyone associated with Nebraska football.
"It's my responsibility. I was hired to do a job and I didn't do the job, I'm just not a very good coach.

Ted Williams in his prime and Tiger today are about the only athletes who will stand the test of time, IMO.

The next Tiger is already out there from what I have been reading, although he is only about 12 yrs old.
