It's admittedly curious the way things unfolded. Animosity has surrounded Pederson for some time. A fair portion of Husker Nation has never really been satisfied with him from the Solich firing and since then resentment has only grown.

Yet, despite all of that, Pederson and Callahan both received fat contract extensions. A seemingly large reward for mediocrity in a storied program. Why was this allowed? If things were so bad why were those extensions given? Why weren't the question being raised prior? Had things seriously become so bad just since those extensions to perpetuate a move so late in the game?

No question the recent resignations of some fairly reputable staff members probably fueled the urgency more than even the dismal tailspin that was obvious on the field. But you have to ask yourself...why did things have to get this bad to begin with? I would hope this isn't a sign of a larger problem that supercedes that AD if I were a Husker fan.

The good news is that whatever AD is next (sounds like it'll probably be Dave Rimington after a brief Osborne mentoring) will likely be hiring a coach that is more of the old school Nebraska likeness and I imagine there'll be a bit more inquiry from outside to AD's office and administration ongoing to ensure a repeat event doesn't occur.

At least, one would hope...

I think they do. And he goes by Harvey.

That was my gut feeling yesterday, but a buddy of mine who follows Nebraska extremely closely (as in, he sits on the 50 yard line for a reason) mentioned that he doesn't believe Harvey has that much pull and that he is merely the talking head more than the decision maker. I don't know.

Yeah, I guess he's only the Chancellor of the University. According to Millikan, the extension was on Perlman. But he also stated that Harvey's job is safe.

One good point about Remington he is Nebraska Guy like Pederson was except without the fanfare they gave Pedey on his return home.

Sounds like Husker Nation has not learned the story of "burn me once, shame on me, Burn me twice shame on me"!

Dukester, just because Petersen was an alum of the University and had no tact with personnel does not mean another NU alum is going to have the same problems. I understand you are just trying to stir the pot, but at least try it with a sense of a rational thought.

And what next? Do they want to exhume DX Bible to coach the team.

Remington will not be the next AD, I will not post any further on this subject until the next AD is named then I will call out all the Kook Aid drinkers for thinking a major university would pick an unknown to run the Athletic Dept.

How little you know about how this all runs!

Rimington won major points with me in a few ways.

1st - the work he does for the Esiason Foundation is tremendous. I applaud him for that.

2nd, he took the ribbing I gave him at the old boards in stride and actually made it into an ongoing joke. I appreciate someone in his position who can take something like that and go with it. (For those who weren't around back then, podcasting used to be a running joke whenever Dave did an interview with Travis on the air. That running joke is my creation. Not saying its my 15 minutes of fame or any of that bs, just taking credit and explaining some of the respect I've developed for Rimington.)

3rd Have you heard the man speak? He is an excellent speaker and can be very persuasive. Hell, there were times that he talked to Trav about the 'skers that almost made me question my reasons for not liking them.

Not saying he will be the new AD, just saying he'd be a good choice regardless of prior experience in an AD position.
