The demise of three good programs.
1. Notre Dame - finally got a win against a needy UCLA bunch.
2. Iowa - losing is becoming their best friend and the schedule is getting tougher.
3. Nebraska - Blackshirts have hit an all time low in my lifetime. Offense is too prone to mistakes and miscues.
I am completely dismayed at how deplorable Nebraska's defense is and I don't apologize for expecting more. I don't believe it is a matter of quality of athlete on the field. It's a chemistry thing & it's a confidence thing.
Early on in the baseball season I watched the Baltimore Orioles get beat by the Texas Rangers 31-3. Prior to that game the O's were playing everyone close and just 2 games below .500. After that game, the O's went on a 11 game losing streak and just fell completely apart. I am relating that skid to what USC may have done to Nebraska. When they reeled off those scores like nothing I believe they did more than score to the mental aspect of Nebraska's defense. They shattered their confidence. And now they have completely collapsed.
I can only hope that Nebraska will make the changes needed and the defensive players can rally together and make this season worth riding along for. We're down but not out! Go Huskers! |

| D, the offense is a joke too. We scored SIX F*CKING POINTS against a defense that was ranked 97th nationally. SIX F*CKING POINTS. |

| maybe the defense was ranked so low because they played (and beat) a pretty good offense earlier in the year in illinois. either way i don't care. mizzou just owned the skers tonight. it was beautiful!!! |

| if nebraska keeps playing like that i think even notre dame could beat them. i thought the skers would end the season 6-6. now i'm thinking more like 5-7. |

That was easily the worst Nebraska football game I have watched in my life. Getting smoked by an average MU team like that is just embarrassing. I don't give any money to the program but if I did i would be asking for it back. There is a good chance that the players will just pack it in for the rest of the season if Cosgrove doesn't get fired this week. I can't say that I would blame them either.

Logan, you are thinking 5-7. What remaining team will the Huskers beat? Colorado? They are playing inspired football. The same can't be said of Nebraska.
Kansas? Playing very well.
K ST? Nope.
OK ST? They can score. Nebraska can't stop anybody.
A&M? Again, they can score. See above.
Texas? In your dreams.
Colorado? Maybe, but they are playing well and have a ton of confidence after beating OK.
Callahan has no personality. He has no passion. And that is trickling down to his players. The fire is gone from Nebraska football. |

| While I agree that yesterday was despicable, I'd hold the thought of complete demise until about early November. Too much football to be played & who knows what team will show up next Saturday. Nebraska comes out and spanks Okie State and all of sudden you same boys are saying "Well, that's progress at least. I still think we suck but we played good today." |

| Okie State is 3-3 with 3 home wins & 3 away losses. They can be dangerous and we all know the Omaha Central High School Eagles could be dangerous to the Blackshirts currently so, we'll see? It is a very winnable game for Nebraska. |

Not sure what the solution is at ND or Nebraska but the Hawks have lost due to injury more players than any team in the Big 10 and quite possibly the nation. The offense stinks plain and simple but it does not stink with seniors as players it stinks with true freshmen, redshirt freshmen and a 1st year sophmore QB. The defense still plays lights out but can't keep it up being on the field all day.
I personally think this is a case of growing pains as opposed to coaching or lack of effort.
But thats only my opinion.

| Cyclical is the formidable word here. Neither three of these programs will stay down. The alum will force action....sometimes it's not the best for the situation. Who knows? |

nebraska will eek out at least one more lucky win, ie ball st. or wake forest (both of those games were one play away from being losses in which the skers lucked out) it will have to be in lincoln cause callican't can't "get er done" on the road. |

Nebraska -- Defense is reaching historically awful levels, in terms of the numbers. The offense simply can't consistently run the football against better football teams. For that matter, it couldn't run consistently against Mizzou.
I agree that it's too early to write them off yet. A&M will be beatable, as is Okie State.
But right now, there is no game we can look at as a win for Nebraska.
It's hard to blame folks for expecting a little better than that in Year Four of the Callahan era.
I believe one thing that's needed there is accountability. For the players, bring back the Unity Council. It was one thing from the TO years that should have been kept. Make the players accountable to each other, as well as the staff. As for the staff, if the downward slide in level of play results in more losses, then some changes will need to be made. Not at head coach yet. But certainly some assistants could/should be let go or reassigned.
Notre Dame -- Weis came in a little overhyped as the Great White Hope of Notre Dame football. He'll get five years to right the ship, since he has the right pigmentation. He's facing a difficult challenge.
Iowa -- Ferentz did a lot right to build the program up, but he's done dismally at maintaining it. The offense is pretty woeful at this point, with a lot of inexperience. Brodell and Moeaki are hurt. Douglas is (allegedly) a criminal. At least they have some coaches in the Iowa family tree to go after should Ferentz leave. |

I like the idea of turning in the "Blackshirts" for pink ones. Then again, the pink locker room things isn't working so well in Iowa City this year.  |
