Have you heard this one yet. A new football league going head to head with the NFL. And guess who's already signed on? Mark Cuban. Did this guy inherit his wealth, cause some of his business ventures sure seem a little sketchy. ie. "The Benefactor" and now this? What an idiot. He must need a tax write-off or something. Now why wouldn't they establish a league that would play from March to July......during the NFL's off season. Then it might have a glimmer of hope for success, although I seriously doubt it. |

Cuban made his money off the internet somehow, I think he sold some website for a bazillion dollars or something like that. I'd google it, but I'm feeling lazy tonight. Anyway, anyone who tries to compete with the NFL is a fool. It's already been tried twice. Remember this? |

XFL -- Poorly run. USFL -- Good idea, but committed suicide by going to a fall schedule. This league has a sliver of a chance, but only if it goes to the spring. |

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin |

Now I hear they are going for a Friday night game schedule, competing with High School Football nationwide. Um, if I could think of a worse idea from the competive viewpoint than competing directly with the NFL, it would be competing with every single school district in the whole US of A for Friday night football.
Ok, a bunch of computer/internet geeks starting a new Professional Football League. This has success written all over it..............................................................................................NOT! |

Gentlemen, I predict this will fail, football IMO is over exposed at this time. You have NFL Europe, CFL, and about 15 different variations of the Indoor Football league. Back in the days of the WFL you didn't have cable to contend with and it still didn't last. Have we forgotten about the USFL and the XFL? Possibly Mr. Cuban is hoping to pull off something akin to the NBA-ABA merger where a few of the stronger franchises got to become NBA teams. It is my opinion that the football talent pool is watered down enough with all the above mentioned variations of teams currently in existence. The public won't support another watered down league filled with athletes who couldn't sign on as free agents in the NFL playing with some orange or blue ball wearing funky uniforms with a helmet with horns coming out of it. |
