Anyone want to defend Cally this week?

My stance has remained relatively unchanged so far this season.

Just because I defended him in replacing Solich doesn't mean I heralded him as the next TO.

I think most of us that have held that stance have pretty much said that.

I'm so sick and friggin tired of their coach speak I want to vomit! To say a win is a win and they are hard to come these days is okay if you are playing the likes of Missouri, Kansas et al. BUT this was Ball St.! Where have we fallen! Pedersen stinks, Coach C is a fraud (agree) and Cosgrove has to go!! Light some fire underneath the players and, oh I don't know...M-O-T-I-V-A-T-E!! And we have Missouri, A&M, Okie St., Kansas, Texas, K-State and Colorado left? The only sure thing is our idle week...we should do pretty well that weekend...then again.....

It's amazing that 4 and 5 star recruits could almost get beat by no star recruits. How does one explain that? Could it be the coaching?

What was the atmosphere in Lincoln like after the game? Was it full of excitement of "Holy Crap, WE JUST BEAT BALL STATE!!!!" Woohoo! Or was it "Holy Crap, WE JUST ABOUT GOT OUR ASSES HANDED TO US BY BALL STATE!!!!!" Ooooo.

Counting the Herd one hoof at a time.

Nebraska fans need to just quit crying and be glad they aren't in ND's boat at this point.

Very quiet, VERY! It's amazing however some fans were jumping up and down in pure excitement when the field goal was missed. To tell you the truth it was hollow win for me.

The crying isn't surprising. Whenever a team doesn't perform up to expectations, fans whine and jump to conclusions (some right, some wrong). I'm sure there were Michigan fans going bananas after Week Two.

I certainly wouldn't want to use "at least we're not ND" as a reason to not question what's going on in Lincoln right now. It's a fun thing to say to Irish fans, but not how most truly feel -- nor should they.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

There always fans, regardless of team, that will cry in those situations...that really wasn't the point.

NU lost to a solid #1 ranked USC. This is the first game they've really stumbled in...until this becomes a pattern of habit it's not worth getting too worked up yet.

When it's all said and done, Nebraska is 3-1 -- the record most predicted they'd be after 4 games. So, in that respect, I guess you're right. But that Ball State game, especially after the USC debacle, was a cause for concern. It's not Armageddon yet, but we're a Cyclone scare away from getting there.

When you look at the upcoming schedule, it's scary to think what POTENTIALLY could happen. Nebraska is going to have to outscore Missouri, as the Tigers will likely put 30+ on the board. A&M has the best offensive line in the Big 12 -- not something to look forward to against NU's pourous D-line. Kansas has been an offensive juggernaut -- against crap teams -- but still concerning. Texas in Austin -- enough said. Oklahoma St. -- another great offense to contend with. K St. and Colorado should be wins, but you know they'll be jacked up to play the Huskers.

It's a mystery what this team will do from here on out. I truly believe we have the players, but who knows...

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Oh yeah...I am not saying there isn't any cause for concern, but for those that were already starting threads like "Callahan = Fraud"...this isn't really ammo for their cause yet.

But certainly this isn't a good sign...it's just not quite apocolypse material yet.

I honestly think the 'skers might have been better served in the future to have lost the game to Ball St., because like everyone says at the end of the day a win is a win is a win. if Nebraska goes on and plays well this game will be forgotten about. but that was BALL ST!!!! I know myself and im sure the majority of people looking at the Nebraska schedule had that game written off as the biggest gimme prior to the start of the season. This was a cupcake Huskers. Ball St. has never beat a BCS conference school, never beat a ranked opponent, never won a bowl game. AND this was in your own house. and when you compound it with the inihillation that USC put on you (yes they are #1... but they rolled you HARD at home and it was over by the middle of the 3rd quarter) and the struggle against Wake, its hard not to look at your program and say its just clicking. the fact that you have salvaged a 3-1 record may serve you for the rest of the season, because if things dont start clicking fast you could be in trouble the rest of the way... Personally i dont think Callahan is your man....

nebraska is 2 plays away from being 1-3. now if the irish were able to squeak out 2 wins like that i'd be happy but at the same time would really be looking toward the future. i think charlie has the potential to develop a winning program that callahan doesn't. is billy gonna have to sacrifice his buddy cosbohl to the big red gods to keep his job? i think so.

I'd be less concerned about a single Ball St. scare that didn't pan than getting owned by my cross state rival the last 7 out of 10 years when it's supposed to be a no contest walk over game most of the time.

The fact is every school has these types of scares on occassion...even USC.

I'm not sure what ND has to do with this. NU would be proud to be 3-0 like the Fighting Sioux.

sure every team can have an off game. Nebraska has had 3 in a row. Not that they needed to beat USC to live up to expectation, but it should have been a 4 quarter game in Nebraska.

Midge,

Are you buying into this Wake Forrest is a really really good team stuff, and now Ball State as well? I personally do not think this was the first stumble. I personally do not think it's a stumble at all. I do not think NU is as good as the talking heads think. How can I say this with all those 4 and 5 star recruits? One word. Coaching!

I know Ball St. isn't that good. However, that QB of theirs is a player. There were a couple plays where Nebraska was playing great cover defense, yet he put the ball in the only place where the receiver could catch it. There were other plays when he put the ball on the numbers, and the receivers dropped it. His numbers should have actually been better (with a W -- had it not been for the dropped passes).

That being said, Nebraska should blow out Ball St. 10 times out of 10, at home. Coaching is to blame for some of it.

I never said anything about Wake Forest or Ball St. being anything more than they are.

Conversely, I never said that NU isn't overrated.

All I said is it's premature to start running Callahan off and writing off the entire season. But, certainly a level of concern is in line regarding the team.

Say what you want, but they are still 3-1 and have only lost to the #1 team in the nation no matter how you slice it.

I am not saying they aren't vulnerable to Iowa St. this weekend...then again, pretty solid Iowa teams consistantly meet that criteria.

Maybe we should discredit all of Iowa's recent success solely on their performance again ISU year in and year out.
