09/10/2007 11:17 AM Alert
Arizona State 33, Colorado 14
Rudy Carpenter threw for 269 yards and 3 TDs to rally the Sun Devils from a 14-0 deficit to beat Colorado on Saturday. ASU's defense dominated the game outside of some stupid personal foul penalties. ASU ended the night with 12 penalties for 136 yards. Cody Hawkins was 15 of 42 for 155 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT for CU. Demetrius Sumler had 16 carries for 34 yards and Scotty McKnight had 6 catches for 63 yards and a score for the Buffs. Rudy Carpenter was 19 of 37 throwing for 269 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT. Ryan Torain had 17 carries for 91 yards and a score and Michael Jones had 6 catches for 96 yards and 2 TDs. Arizona State outgained Colorado in total offense 407 to 204.

Northern Iowa 24, Iowa State 13
Eric Sanders passsed for two touchdowns and ran for another as Northern Iowa kept Iowa State winless under new head coach Gene Chizik. Northern Iowa, a Division I-AA school, looked much sharper and stronger than its Big 12 opponent, which had four turnovers and didn't look consistent at all on offense. With the win, the Panthers ended a five-game losing streak to Iowa State in front of the largest crowd ever at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames (56,795). Brett Meyer was 27 of 43 for 255 yards with 2 INTs and was also the team's leading rusher with 11 carries for 50 yards and a TD. Marquis Hamilton was the Cyclone's leading receiver with 7 catches for 97 yards. For Northern Iowa, Eric Sanders was 23 of 29 for 180 yards with 2 TDs, Corey Lewis had 19 carries for 130 yards and Johnny Gray had 7 grabs for 51 yards and a score. Iowa State outgained Northern Iowa 399 yards to 327 yards.

Kansas 62, Southeast Louisiana 0
Todd Reesing threw for 257 yards and two TDs and KU also scored on a 74-yard kick return and scored two safeties to beat an overmatched I-AA opponent. KU totaled 501 yards of total offense and only allowed 75 total yards as everything went nearly perfect for the second straight week for Kansas. Brandon McAnderson had 11 carries for 60 yards with 2 TDs and Marcus Henry had 5 catches for 119 yards in the blowout. Brian Babin was the only bright spot for Southeast Louisiana going 20 of 30 for 89 yards.

Kansas State 34, San Jose State 14
Josh Freeman threw for 272 yards and a TD with 2 INTs and ran for another score for the Wildcats' first win of 2007. James Johnson ran for 111 yards and a score as KSU avoided its first 0-2 start since 1989. San Jose State lost their starting QB Adam Tafralis in the third quarter to a shoulder injury a week after the Spartans lost their leading rusher to an ankle injury. Jordy Nelson was the top Wildcat receiver with 6 catches for 82 yards. For San Jose State, Andy Albassam was 16 of 20 for 134 yards in relief and Kevin Jurovich was the only other top offensive threat with 10 catches for 82 yards. Kansas State outgained San Jose State 425 yards to 293 yards.

Missouri 38, Mississippi 25
Chase Daniel accounted for a career-high 396 yards of total offense and threw five touchdown passes as the Tigers won in SEC country. Mizzou sprinted out to a 28-point lead, then held on for the win. Missouri is averaging 39 points and 494 yards of offense per game, but is allowing almost 480 yards per game to its opponents. Mizzou racked up 559 yards in this game and allowed 534 to Ole' Miss. Chase Daniel was 31-of-43 for 330 yards with 5 TDs and Tony Temple had 17 carries for 123 yards. Will Franklin was the top Tiger receiver with 8 catches for 105 yards and 2 TDs. For Mississippi, Seth Adams was 23 of 41 for 305 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT, BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 33 carries for 226 yards and a score and Mike Wallace had seven catches for 136 yards and a score.

Nebraska 20, Wake Forest 17
Sam Keller nearly gave away the game during his first road start at Nebraska. Three plays after Keller threw an interception deep in Nebraska territory, Zackary Bowman brought the game back by intercepting Wake Forest quartebrack Brett Hodges in the end zone. Nebraska did not have the gaudy offensive numbers of a week ago, but survived its first real test of 2007 by beating the defending ACC champions. This was the first time Nebraska has ever faced an ACC opponent on the road and Wake's 31,000 seat Groves Stadium was the smallest stadium the Huskers had played in since 1971. For the Huskers, Keller was 24 of 41 for 258 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Marlon Lucky, the nation's leading rusher heading into this week, had 24 carries for 90 yards and a score and also had 33 more yards receiving. Terrence Nunn was the leading Nebraska receiver with 6 catches for 83 yards. For Wake Forest, Brett Hodges was 12 of 24 for 140 yards with 2 INTs. Wide receiver Kenneth Moore was both the leading rusher and receiver for the Deacons with 8 carries for 116 yards and a score and 4 catches for 35 yards. Wake Forest outgained Nebraska in total offense 376 yards to 373 yards.

Baylor 42, Rice 17
Blake Syzmanski was 29 of 46 for a school-record 412 yards and six touchdowns to give the Bears their first win of the season. Syzmanski completed passes to 12 different receivers, and five different ones scored. The Baylor running game was still non-existent with Brandon Whitaker the top rusher with 34 yards on 8 carries. He was also the leading Bear receiver with 27 yards on 6 catches. Chase Clement was 20 of 25 for 207 yards with 1 INT. Jarrett Dillard had 93 yards receiving to lead the Owls as well. Baylor outgained Rice 521 yards to 349 yards. This was the first meeting between these former Southwest Conference rivals since 1995 and they won't play again until 2010. Baylor has now won four straight over Rice.

Oklahoma 51, Miami 13
Sam Bradford threw a school-record five touchdown passes, three of them to Malcolm Kelly, in a blowout win in Norman over the Hurricanes. It is the first Sooner win over Miami since Miami swept three games from OU in the 1980s. Bradford was 19-for-25 for 205 yards in his second career start. DeMarco Murray had 15 carries for 64 yards and Jermaine Gresham had 8 catches for 55 yards and a score to lead the receivers. For Miami, Kyle Wright was 7-of-14 for 65 yards with 1 TD. Javarris James had 8 carries for 28 yards and Darnel Jenkins had 3 catches for 35 yards in a miserable outing for the Miami offense. The Hurricanes ended the day with 139 yards of total offense and allowed 411 yards to the Sooners.

Oklahoma State 42, Florida Atlantic 6
Oklahoma State backup quarterback Zac Robinson came in and passed for 250 yards and three TDs, two to Adarius Bowman, to lead the Cowboys to a win. It was not immediately known why Bobby Reid, the regular starter at QB did not play. Robinson was 14 of 20 on the day.

Texas 34, Texas Christian 13
TCU led the game early and had a 10-0 halftime lead, but the Longhorns turned up the intesity in the second half to pull away from the Horned Frogs. McCoy, who had two first half interceptions, really stepped up his game in the second half. He ended the day with a 25 of 38 passing performance for 239 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Jamaal Charles had 22 carries for 134 yards and a score and Nate Jones had 8 catches for 91 yards and a score of his own. For TCU, Andy Dalton was 23 of 37 for 208 yards with a pick, Ryan Christian had 10 carries for 41 yards and Donald Massey had 4 catches for 53 yards. Texas outgained TCU 415 yards to 251 yards. TCU turned the ball over 4 times in the game compared to twice for the Longhorns. TCU had a five game winning streak against Big 12 teams coming into this game.

Texas A&M 47, Fresno State 45 (3OT)
Texas A&M blew a 19-point lead, had a game-winning play negated by a penalty and then needed Jorvorskie Lane's power and one last defensive stand to finally put away Fresno State. Lane rushed for two of his four TDs in the overtime periods. Fresno State failed to convert a required two-point conversion try in the third overtime to give A&M their ninth straight nonconference win at home. A&M had stopped Fresno State from scoring in the first overtime, but a roughing the passer penalty gave new life to the Bulldogs and kept the game going. For the Aggies, Stephen McGee was 13-of-25 for 79 yards for 1 TD and also had 16 carries for 124 yards. Jorvorskie Lane had 23 carries for 121 yards and 4 TDs. Martellus Bennett was the top Aggie receiver with 5 catches for 35 yards. For Fresno State, Tom Brandstater was 21 of 32 for 260 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT. Ryan Mathews had 11 carries for 66 yards with 1 TD and Marlon Moore had 5 catches for 76 yards. Fresno State outgained Texas A&M in total offense 411 yards to 397.

Texas Tech 45, Texas-El Paso 31
Graham Harrell threw for 484 yards and four TDs as Texas Tech came from behind at home to beat UTEP. The Red Raiders trailed 28-17 at the half before finding their groove. Harrell was 48 of 64 on the day. Michael Crabtree had 15 catches for 188 yards and two TDs for the Red Raiders.
