I can see both side...certainly, measuring W/L's by the final results is necessary. However, there is some merit as well to measuring them at the time of play...the team ranked high at the time of play has a psychological advantage. Although, it's a sliding scale thing if you rate them that way...Crit's right, rankings mean more at the end of the season.
And, personally, I don't think it matters much either way if you get blown out.
