Since this "board" wasn't up and running at the time of the NFL draft, I was just curious of anyone's thoughts regarding what went down. And how come Quinn didn't have to suck it up like Leinart did last year......waiting moment after embarrassing moment on the ESPN/NFL Network "Chump Cam" until FINALLY, his name is called. |

| I was bummed when Dallas made the deal with Cleveland, I wanted to see what Carl Peterson was going to do if Quinn dropped to KC. I would've been pissed if the would've drafted him. Oh, and a big eff you to the Dolphins for not coughing up a 4th rounder for Trent Green. |

It was obvious once Quinn got past Miami at 9, he was going to be sitting around for a LONG TIME. I thought it was a good move on the Commissioner's part. Conversely, Leinart had a couple teams that were going to pick him before the Draft reached the teens. Leinart's agony had a recognizable ceiling; Quinn's really didn't.
If I were Miami, I wouldn't give a 4th rounder either. KC is going to have to release him. Miami gives up the pick and control over salary by trading for him. I think they were smart to wait, and just sign him once the Chiefs give him his pink slip.
Not a Chiefs fan, but always liked Will Shields (Nebraska reasons, and he's a good guy) and Dante Hall (electrifying; very few players create such excitement and anticipation before touching the ball). It's too bad they left, as now I have little reason to watch their games on Sunday (every F'n Sunday!!!), other than I'm a junkie. |

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

| The other situation I found rather comical was the NFL Network utilizing MeShawn during their telecast. I recall watching MeShawn talking about Dwayne Jarrett, thinking to myself, wouldn't it be frick'in hilarious for the commissioner to announce a trade involving MeShawn while he's on the air. Well, it didn't happen, but I suspected MeShawn's time as a Panther was limited after that pick. |

Wasn't Keyshawn working for ESPN, and not the NFL network?
Regardless, that was comical. It was entertaining to see Keyshawn "analyze" all the pointers and guidance he'd provide Jarrett as teammates and fellow USC alum -- only to be cut a couple days later. What made it even better is that I read the NY Giants thought about signing Keyshawn to be their 3rd WR, but elected to trust their rookie draft pick (Steve Smith from USC!!!!) instead. |

Peh. I hope Carl keeps Trent just to screw Miami, I could care less about the $7.2 million he'll have to pay him, it's not like it's my money. He could stand on the sideline holding a clipboard for all I care. A fourth rounder for a starting QB isn't that unreasonable. |

| Vranged, I think you're right, it was espn. I can't believe I actually sat and watched the event, obviously switching back between espn and the NFL Network, to see if one or the other had some better insite. Shoot me now! |

| Nothing to be ashamed of. The NFL draft can be good viewing -- this year's especially. I read that they are thinking about a) airing the first round in Prime Time on Friday night and b) reducing the amount of time a team can take in between picks. I wouldn't mind either of those developments. |

| NBA draft day coming soon! Greg Oden #1? I think he'll be a bust ala, Kwame Brown or Yinka Dare. Big and strong but not smart enough to truly dominate on the NBA level. |

Bill Simmons recently wrote an article talking about how the NBA offseason is much more intriguing than the actual season. I agree with him. I actually enjoy the NBA (unlike others on here), and follow it closely (more through SportsCenter highlights and box scores), but didn't watch much actual gametime this season (maybe the equivalent of 25 games?). But this offseason, I'm way into the Kobe-getting-traded headlines, Oden v. Durant, the depth of the draft, Garnett, etc.. It's good stuff.
That being said, Oden reminds me of David Robinson, but stronger at an earlier age. That's quite a combo. I've never seen a 7-footer be so explosive off the ground. Sure, he's 7-feet, and is going to dunk easily, but everything looks so effortless -- much like Robinson. The rest of his game will only get better. I'd be willing to bet he has a much better career than Yinka Dare (great reference, by the way!)
I see him going down as one of the Top Ten Centers of all time. He'll be behind Wilt, Russell, Shaq, Hakeem, Moses, and Kareem but ahead of Ewing, Parish, Walton, Willis Reed and D. Robinson.
As for Oden "not (being) smart enough", he's a very intelligent kid (who looks like a grandfather). His grades, from what I've found, were very good. He's articulate. He's engaging. Why do you think he's dumb? |

Another NBA reference....
I was flipping through the channels last night, and came across the NBA Network's re-airing of the 1999 NBA Draft. It was pretty entertaining to hear the commentators gushing over Vanderbilt's talented, athletic and dominant center, Will Perdue, and how he was going to be a difference-maker on the next level. If by "difference maker", they meant "guy who clogs up space so Michael Jordan can do his thing", they were right. But they made him sound like he had the post-moves of Olajuwon, with the heart of Russell. Not so much....
Those old telecasts are pretty funny in that they show how little the "experts" and prognosticators really know. |

| Good points V on Oden. I actually didn't know he held decent grades in class. In this instance I guess I was utilizing his playing style. He seems to make bad decisions on the court at times and in bunches when he does. But as far as talent the young, big fella is definetely a freak! Time will tell....he might be a keeper! |
