Posted By vranged on 06/26/2008 4:30 PM Posted By Omahan on 06/26/2008 9:04 AM Here's another example of hypocrisy: Take one post and keep the intent the same, yet change the wording to make them separate. Now present them both for egami viewing. Sign one - from DMan and the other - from vranged. His one dimensional thinking would kick in and off to the races he would go. He'd agree with the vranged version and slash the DMan version. Why? Because that is the small world he lives in. That's the most easily disproven thing you've ever typed. You've seen egami and I go at it when we disagree. It's the content, i.e. yours is usually ignorant and dumb. Good try though, Corky.

Posted By turducken on 06/26/2008 4:22 PM Posted By Omahan on 06/26/2008 11:29 AM Listen Midge, blacks today are developing a mentality that they have the "right" to say or do whatever they please against a white person and they are doing it right in front of your eyes. It has been a growing phenomenon for quite some time now and is perpetuated whenever someone like Imus fouls up and sez the slightest thing negative toward a black person. In my mind, it is very much a "black rights" issue. Black folk are coming to believe free speech for them means the ability to say anything they please whenever that may be. And in the black person's mind, white's do not share that same privilege. It's hypocrisy that is based on blacks believing they have the "right" to say whatever they please. This was exactly my point in bringing up Shaq rapping about a 'white boy.' Call an older black man a boy and see how he reacts.
What's your point? The word has no parallel connotation to whites. |

Posted By egami on 06/26/2008 1:36 PM Posted By Bugeater on 06/26/2008 1:24 PM Gah. I don't always choose words carefully enough. That statement does make it sound like I'm saying only blacks stick it to whites because of racism. Of course that's not true. What I meant is some of them seem to think that there's nothing wrong with sticking it to whitey whenever they can because of racism. Do you mean because of their perceived "victim" status in society? There is little question that is one avenue that blacks have that whites don't. Obviously whites can't use their status to perpetuate racism, but that just comes with the nature of reality. Had it been blacks who had enslaved whites then it'd be our race who had a subset of people using our status as a way to launch their own racist agenda. I am not saying it's right. I am not saying that it's justifiable. But I can tell you that in todays society which race I'd rather be despite that issue...I'd still choose being white. I saw a little website the other day that was selling some sort of occupational help guide. All the little icons were white people. Look at the advertisement at the top of the forums that reads "Find Your Graduating Class" it'll have 3 white girls. How many political leaders, CEO's and large figures in this country are white? Most. When's the last time you saw "Dick and Jane" book you read to your kids have colored kids? Few. We live in a "white" world. So, yeah, on one hand it they do it, but on the other hand there are still a LOT of reasons for a well-minded, non-hateful person of color to feel slighted. Again, that doesn't justify it...and it doesn't justify what the media does, it's just the reality of the situation though. Egami, Sorry to break the bad news to you but if you would take the time to study the historical events involving slavery in not only this country but other areas of the world, "whites didn't initally enslave blacks" BLACKS DID IT TO THEMSELVES, ONE TRIBE CAUGHT THE OTHER MUCH LIKE YOU OR I WOULD TRAP A COMMON ANIMAL AND SOLD THEM TO SLAVE TRADERS WHO IN SOME INSTANCES WERE ALSO BLACK, IN FACT THE EARLY WHITE SLAVE TRADERS WHERE NOT AMERICANS OR CAME FROM AMERICA. You really have to stop carrying this cross that you evidently bear, make out a check to the United Negro College Fund if that makes you sleep better. |

But what real world application does "white boy" have? What white person is going to be affected by it? That's what I continue to go back to.
Being white will never be a disadvantage, so all these "double standards" or "reverse racisms" or whatever you want to call them are pretty irrelevant. Imus saying "big surprise...he was black" perpetuates a stereotype that has real world consequences in society. Shaq saying "white boy" or a movie studio making "White Men Can't Jump" have no appreciable real world consequences. That's the difference. |

Posted By vranged on 06/26/2008 9:22 PM Being white will never be a disadvantage. It is in Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Philidelphia, Atlanta and many other major cities. Especially in Baltimore...many professionals here are black, i.e., doctors, lawyers, etc. It trickles down and you see the small business owners are black. Being white in Baltimore can put a person at a great disadvantage in many facets of living for sure. |

Having lived in, or spent extended time in, a few of those cities let me just point out that the word "many" is incorrect. Most of the areas in most of those cities are still favorable to whites. Are there larger pockets of blacks in those areas that might potentially foster an environment like that? Absolutely, but most of major corporations, politicians and other people in significant positions are still largely white on a percentage basis. |

Being white in Baltimore can put a person at a great disadvantage in many facets of living for sure. Just to be clear, why is it a disadvantage to be white in Baltimore? I'm not going to put words in your mouth, so I guess I'm giving you the opportunity to respond, but I gathered from you post that if you lived in Baltimore, you have a greater chance of having a black doctor, black lawyer, or black grocery store owner......and I'm just wondering how that is a disadvantage to a white person. |

Here's a real life example: One of our neighbors has a bachelors degree but still only works in offices for companies mostly as a high paid executive secretary that coordinates and just generally does the "flunky" work for the big guy. This lady's husband does very well and so they are not hurting for cash. Anyways, she recently has been home often and I inquired to her while mowing that maybe she should get a job. She didn't smile and informed me that she had in fact lost here job in Baltimore. She had been placed in a position that she felt she was railroaded out of a job. She is white and her bosses are black. She had heard from a reliable co-worker that there had been conversation mentioning her being replaced by a "sister." (a black woman) She told me the company was probably 80% African American employees and that the few Caucasians that worked there rarely got promoted. She got canned because she is white in Baltimore. I'm not going to overkill this type of scenario as I don't believe it is as rampant in other places. Here it is common...good thing Washington DC is so close. Government jobs are solid and pay well. Most people that live near us have government jobs & getting paid well to do little. My reference to Baltimore having professional blacks is to say that blacks are in charge in Baltimore more than in some cities. They make the decisions that whites make in the midwest. Like who is mayor, who is going to get the contract, who is going to get a boost from the sly, etc. |

You stated that she works for "offices of companies mostly as a high paid executive secretary." To me, that sounds like she works for some sort of secretarial pool where the assignments are temporary anyway. I'd refer her to a good discrimination lawyer....preferably one who reads Jason Whitlocks columns daily. |

In reading Dukesters post he did use the word "initially" which is historically correct. It appears you jumped to a conclusion possibly without taking the whole post into consideration. In summation I would categorically state he did not say it was "their own fault". |

Crit, I doubt she will sue and no she does not work for a pool. Where did you read that?
(man)
She worked for a company that is owned by blacks in Baltimore, MD. She is white and was let go and was told the company was downsizing. She has come to understand that not only is the company not downsizing, they are hiring as we speak.
It's an isolated situation but definately a true story. |
