Ah, the smell of football is in the air. Honestly, is there a better time of year than August? Every team is still in the race, and fans are giddy about the exploits of every third string nobody who straps on a helmet, wondering if they’ll be the next big star.
Another college football season is almost upon us, and for me that means the relaxing days of summer are OVER. Because nothing brings out the passion in our web community quite like college football. Don't get me wrong . . . the NFL and baseball still hold their places. It's just that college football is different. So what is it that makes college football so special? What binds a fan to a team so tightly?

Cornhuskers the winningest college football program of the last 50 years, both by winning percentage and number of wins.

I honestly like NFL and college football both pretty equally. What sets aside college football to me is the atmosphere and the history. You just can't hardly beat the old time college football rivalry. Also, what I enjoy about college football is the year to uncertainty...new players come in and old players move on and each season truly breeds a unique team unlike the year before.

But if I had to put my finger on a single aspect that I most like about the college level the most it's that game day atmosphere with the students, alumni, fans, bands and tailgates that are just a unique experience.

I love college football and the pros pretty much equally.
Now, college basketball vs. pro basketball? College all the way, not only does it have the atmosphere, I just enjoy the type of games more.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin

i agree wholeheartedly. There is nothing better than college football in sports land. and the very start of the season seems to create the most excitement until the end. Enjoy all!

Maybe Saturday's games will stop all the catfighting on here.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Or create a whole new batch of catfighting talking points.

I think for me, it's about looking back all those years ago when I was in college. It's an opportunity for 1 day a week, in the fall, to participate in those activities that added to the excitement of game day. It's an opportunity to take us back, if only for a day a week for 16 weeks, to a time when we had no worries, no problems, etc. It's football season fellas, and there is nothing quite like it in all of sports.

Counting the Herd one hoof at a time.
