Sounds like Tom is suffering from buyer's remorse after not everyone got on board with 'We have to do whatever it takes to keep the CWS in Omaha' like he did. If he's scratching his head wondering why attendance is 10K short of capacity on a beautiful afternoon maybe he should realize some who didn't lap up what the mayor and the NCAA force-fed them are making their opinions heard by not going to the game. People will tolerate getting pushed around for only so long before they push back. |

| You mean $4 a gallon gas and a crappy economy have nothing to do with smaller crowds at the CWS??? Fewer people came because of a new stadium that is three years from being occupied??? Do you REALLY believe that, turducken??? Tell me it ain't so... |

Not sure how the economy will be in 3 years but the price of gas will probably be double of what it is now. Did Mayor Mikey and the NCAA plan for that? |

It's my fault," said first-year Nebraska coach Bo Pelini. "Damn right, yes, I'm embarrassed. I apologized to the team. I apologize to the state of Nebraska. I apologize to everyone associated with Nebraska football. "It's my responsibility. I was hired to do a job and I didn't do the job, I'm just not a very good coach. |

| Eh, in order to know for sure what's going on you'd have to know if there was less locals or less out-of-towners attending. I'd have to guess it's a little of both, and while that could be factor for locals I think the format this year isn't helping either. I have no idea when the hell the games are anymore. |

Any format where there's a possibility of no games on Saturday is flawed. But, hey, as long as ESPN's happy, who cares how many people actually show up at the stadium? |

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin |

Don't you fret Omaha. Gasoline prices could never affect the thorough financial analysis that went into projecting record profits for the new stadium.
The 1,000 average attendance the Royals will bring in on top is just gravy.

Of course the economy plays a part but some of the empty seats have to be silent protests. For the locals the CWS is cheap entertainment. |

| Personally, I doubt there are a lot of protesters, but frankly...I would think that would better problem to have than an economic crunch causing a downward trend in attendance because people will get over it locally...gas prices, however, will never again go down. |

Interesting comments regarding why the attendance is off the normal pace. If I have anything to add it would be not only is attendance off but the overall enthusiasm has been down. I am sure it's not because of the economy or the price of gasoline. In my opinion the economy is much like the weather, it can't be crappy everywhere at the same time. Many people I have spoken to during the series seemed disinterested in the event due to the ongoing soap opera that the Mayor has orchestrated regarding the stadium and MECCA in general. An old adage my father taught me was "piss off" enough people and something usually suffers. |

Now if they were to play there, I'm sure attendance would get a boost for the first year or two just because of the new stadium. But for 25 years? That might be pushing it. It's not just the gas prices either, with the way the NCAA is stretching it out it's also going to require the fans of teams that are winning to stay a lot longer as well, all while paying one of the highest hotel taxes in the nation... And in the past the fans of losing teams sometimes stuck around to the end of the series, I'm sure more of them are just going to bail now. But hey, as long as ESPN is happy, that's all that matters. |

Well, that might be true about the Royals Bugs, but my point is really that the Goose the laid the Golden Egg (NCAA) is what really makes this deal hum. That and the TV deals apparently, because now, all the sudden, the attendance doesn't seem to matter as much, because it's all about the broadcast. All I'm saying is be still and just watch the whole thing come together into this profit center unseen by any other city with a baseball stadium. |

I hear the Omaha Royals decided they wanted to play somewhere that actually cared about them, and intend to play elsewhere. Any truth to that? What a great time to spend millions and millions of tax dollars; coinciding with the Federal Government spending trillions and trillions of tax dollars. The new government philosophy, "If we print it, we can pay it." You might be paying $15.00 for a gallon of milk and $14.00 for a loaf of bread, but at least you'll have a fancy baseball stadium to watch some great games for 2 weeks out of the year. Congrats! |

| LaVista wants to build the Royals a stadium so the adults can drink microbrews on picnic tables while their kids play in a state of the art jungle gym. Oh by the way there will be baseball played as well. |
