Tampa, I think, is through the denial stage that Gruden actually acheived anything significant outside of what was pre-built for him by Dungy. I would anticipate he will be gone this year outside of a Super Bowl berth or maybe a NFC championship. He hasn't done anything since the Super Bowl except choke to Washington in the playoffs a couple years ago.

As a Tampa fan, I have to agree. Gruden was hailed as the 2nd coming of Christ and hasn't done anything since the Super Bowl.

Lynch leaving was a huge loss IMO as he's done nothing but perform for the Broncos. Letting Meshawn and Sapp go was probably the right thing to do at the time, as was Rice this year.

Coming off the Super Bowl win & heading into 2003, the Bucs looked good. Then the Monday night game against Indy hit and they lost in OT. That was the game that ended the season for the Bucs. '04 - '06 haven't worked out for one reason or another - and I'm ok with that.

Gruden (or the Glazer family) hung onto Simms way too long. I was hoping they'd be able to get some trade value out of him by sending him to Atlanta - killing 2 birds with one Simms. He doesn't have what it takes to be a starter and would have hurt the Falcons for years to come AND we would have gotten a draft pick for him. So much for that dream....

You are forgetting that Coach Bill Callahan took the Raider team Gruden built to that same Super Bowl.

I got no love for the guy as I am not a Buc's fan, but I'm just saying....he did build a Super Bowl caliber team on his own. And don't try to tell me that was all Callahan's doing either, cause I am not falling for that one.

We are talking about the Bucs, right? I didn't forget anything. My statement regarding Gruden was on what he's done at Tampa.

the comment that he hasn't achieved anything significant outside of what was "pre-built" for him by Dungy infers that you are not just talking about his years at Tampa. I'm just saying. No need to get all amped up again Midge.

Don't be deliberately obtuse.

1. We were talking in the context of Tampa Bay.

2. I specifically state DUNGY implying Tampa Bay.

3. Dungy wasn't at Oakland pre-building anything for him.

probably something like "anything significant while at Tampa" would have presented a little more clarity. Just "anything significant" leaves the door wide open to the guys entire career. I'm just saying.

Lets have an argument, shall we?

Crit, do you understand the concept of context? As I clearly demonstrated there is nothing in the context to indicate that.

Sure, if you want to pull only two words and look at only those two words and ignore the context of the sentence, paragraph and conversation....yeah, you could come to that incorrect assumption.

I'll let it go Midge. It is obvious that you were discussing Gruden while at Tampa and I "get it". But with your initial "pissy" response, and your penchant to argue, I had to take it further.

That was a pretty straight-forward, non-pissy reply. I am sorry your feelings were hurt. I'll try to be more sensitive to your feelings in the future.

Seriously, egami, lighten up. Nobody likes a guy who has to argue everything.

That was weird...I almost got struck by lightning.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

BTW, Griese gives new life to the Bears. Granted he is not a great QB, but he can manage the game to allow the D more rest. He doesn't have to score a lot of points, just more than the opponent. And with a revived D (with exception of all the high caliber injuries), the Bears make a run for the divisional title.

I do still think the Bucs would have been better off long-term with Dungy and McKay running things instead of Gruden and Allen.
Allen's just as much to blame. He's made some real head-scratching personnel decisions.
Bringing in Gator Arms Stevens at tight end (of course, he got arrested before the season started, what a shock) and begging Jake Plummer to come in being two of them.
If Gruden is gone, I wonder if the Glazers would be willing to back up the Brinks truck to Cowher's place.
Or try to bring back one of those assistants in the Dungy tree.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin

Yeah, in fairness it's not all Gruden. I don't follow the Tampa front office enough to know what I think they'll do in replacing Gruden.

I think everyone will be in the Cowher chase and being a proud defense oriented mindset that makes sense. I really want to say Cowher will end up in Cleveland, but he'll end up somewhere that gives him control and I am not sure that's Cleveland or Tampa (or Dallas or Oakland...you know, all the control freak places).
