Posted By Crit40 on 05/23/2008 4:48 PM I'm not sure that your contention that they've had it easier due to playing lower ranked teams holds up. (I'm assuming that was your theory) The SEC has played in the National Championship game 4 times, and 3 of those times they were #2 (underdog). They've won every NC game they've played in (4). Also, if the SEC wasn't playing in a NC game, it is probably a safe assumption that they were one of the next in line, therefore maybe being a 3 or 5 playing a 4 or 6? I don't know. I'm just shooting holes in your theory.
When you consider SEC Fans argument using the BCS as their benchmark you have to consider the whole and not just the part and the fact is, when you look at all conferences, they all perform equitably overall. Just suggesting that if you are the number 3 team in the country many of those years, they certainly can't be playing a team that is ranked higher. That's true for all conferences though, not just the SEC... The fact is, they have historically had the best matchups. |
