I just heard some guys talking on the radio the other day about what a smart move it was to keep Joba in the bullpen this season even if it costs Cashman his job because it'll pay off dividends for his future.

I just laughed, because if there is anything you know about New York is that they don't have the patience for that. They want to win now and they'll typically move on things aggressively. Little did I even know it's be THIS soon they'd start the progression. I was guessing maybe after the All Star break.

And you have on cue demonstrated what I have hallucinated from day one in regards to you.

Long overdue.
The lousy starting pitching forced their hand. And, they're better off getting more innings out of Joba.
My guess is Ramirez moves to the setup spot.
And Kyle Farnsworth will still suck.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin

So far, the guys that were calling for him to prep the entire season are saying "I told you so..."

Be interesting to see how it plays out. Personally, I would have waited until at least July.

He pitched well in his first outing. Too many pitches in that 1st inning killed him. He didn't get shelled.

I watched the game up until Joba went to the clubhouse. I thought he pitched well but it just wasn't his night.

2 1/3 innings and only allowed 2 runs (1 earned). He must've pitched well.

I imagine a whole lot of fist pumping and batter chatter was going on, eh?

I think he will do fine in his next start.

If he had as much control with his fast ball as he did when he threw his mit into the dugout, he may have had a slightly better outing.

More importantly he, himself, pretty much said he pitched like shit.

I'd say Joba's assessment of himself is right on.

Not exactly the blueprint for moving him, but....

Ian Kennedy 0-3, 7.41 ERA
Phillip Hughes 0-4, 9.00 ERA
Mussina's 9-4 with a 4.01 ERA, but he's only a five-inning pitcher these days.

Personally, I wouldn't have moved him yet. That 7th and 8th inning is so important, and with the Yanks offense, they can overcome some lousy starting pitching. You know Joba is going to be one of the better set-up men in the league. That's established at this point. What he will be as a starter is still a mystery. I guess when you're in last place, it's a good time to make that gamble, but as is evidenced by Farnsworth's performances since the move, you now have taken a team strength and made it a weakness, while having a new unknown in the rotation.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I actually think that it takes Joba a while to get the fist pumping and the finger pointing and the batter chatter going, which suits him much better as a closer.

It's just tough getting all fired up in inning No. 1, with a 0-0 score. Pointing at the guy and making fun of his momma just doesn't have the same effect in the 1st inning.
