Logan, if you really think that the same demo listens to TnT as do sports talk radio, you just proved you are an idiot! Just because two liberal burnouts like to get people in a sweat over the huskers, you think that everyone wants to listen to that garbage? TnT have their moments, but they don't have a lot to compete with, i.e. the bar is set very low. Regardless of what Matt and Travis do, they still have a lot of people who tuned to another show because they don't like them, not the subject matter.

The fact is, the majority of the people in Omaha are big Husker fans. It doesn't serve a great purpose to repeatedly offend that fanbase, which is how Perrault is viewed. Sooner or later, people get tired of the insults and the negativity towards something they love, so they turn the channel.

I'm not saying that reaction is right, but it's human nature.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

The funny thing about you Logan, when you know you have not point, you go to an attempt at an insult. Try maturity out once, you may like it.

no, my point is very clear. you don't seem to understand what i type. you said tnt's and sports talk shows were entirely different demos in one post and then say there is a little cross over in another. i said i think there is more cross over than you think. only journal's sales manager can definitely answer that question. in the mean time read every word and make sure you understand those words before posting a response. otherwise you tend to sound like dman, or a woman in an argument, one in the same.

where did i suggest that he spend 4 hours a day talking husker football? I didn't. Nor did I say he should gush over them. I'm just saying he alienated a large part of his audience right out of the gate. The same tactic wouldn't work in Boston or New York or Austin either. I am as big a fan of the jays as anyone...so I enjoy the diversity of his show as well. Hell, I said I loved the show. I think he's the best thing going in local sports talk. But they wouldn't be bringing in the king of all tools if the show was doing well in the ratings...and go on any message board and you'll find he's hated by husker fans. And that is the vast majority of the audience. Maybe the diverse show (i.e. other teams/sports), whether he's positive about NU or not, was the death blow...which would be unfortunate. I'm not saying the reasons for low ratings are right. Just pointing out the reality. Travis Justice is coming in a) because his show was not getting ratings and b) because neither is Matt's. All in the hopes of saving Matt's show. But it's not going work. Justice is a tool. He will ruin the show.

if bashing the huskers is the wrong thing to do for a radio talk show host then why do todd n tyler have the number one rated morning show in omaha for the last several years? i think you're way off base on this one.

LOL. Not way off base at all. Todd & Tyler is not a sports talk radio show. Your comparing the two is WAY off base. People tune in to local sports talk radio mostly to hear about the local teams. UNFORTUNATELY, some can't handle a little criticism of their team. But MOST don't want to hear constant negativity. It's a fine line...what's "too negative" and what is just pandering. personally, I don't think Perrault has crossed that line...but many gave up on him early on. I'm not saying those people are rational or right. I'm just saying that MANY husker fans can't stand perrault. And when you are splitting an already small market with Dumb and Dumber you can't alienate the major fan base.

I've thought about this T&T vs. Matt and Trav comparison some time now since you guys have been arguing and I have to admit I think there is a big difference between T&T and Matt and Trav bashing the Huskers.

T&T is generally an entertainment forum. They rip on everyone. It's expected and people take most of T&T as humor with relatively little seriousness.

M&T are doing sports shows. Most people take the format seriously and to heart much moreso than a morning drive show.

I do think that M&T would suffer more from blatent Husker-bashing. Of all the complaints I hear from the two shows they rank as such:

T&T - immature, not too funny...whatever
M&T - whining, Husker-bashing....

I've never heard anyone heavily criticize T&T on Husker-bashing, but I've heard it numerous times with M&T.

Good points.

When Todd and Tyler do it, even Husker fans have the attitude of: "Ohhh....those crazy guys." But those same Husker fans can tune into a sports talk show, for the purpose of hearing about Nebraska football, and get sick of all the negativity. There are other equally-entertaining/informative options for the Husker fans to go to, without having to hear all the bashing. I think that'll happen over time, affecting the ratings.

Again, I'm not saying that the bashing is wrong, if warranted. And I'm not even saying a lot of it isn't warranted. What I am saying is, Husker fans generally don't want to hear negative things about the program. It doesn't bother me much, but it does others.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Go to any major college market and you could say that same phrase...South Bend, Gainsville, Austin, Ann Arbor, Columbus, Miami, Norman...on and on and on.....It is not the fan that is the problem, it is the show that has a host (hosts now) that are never wrong and keep bashing the local team...you know that feeling, as you are never wrong and your day is achieved to spew garbage about a team you dont care for. We all know that, if you are not a fan, no one is forcing you to be one. But, when the Huskers are the #1 game in town, don't buddy when you hear a lot about them, as a lot are interested.

so i'm not allowed to b!tch just because it's the local team and there are more fans than not? so much for the first amendment i guess. and you are wrong. the fans not being able to take "bashing" or realistic negative criticism is the fan's problem, not the host's.

There is a show out there that is 99.9-percent a-kissing towards the Huskers, if those are so inclined to listen.
The second half of the "New and (Allegedly) Improved Big Show" today? Not the trainwreck it could have been. Still will need some time to develop a flow, obviously.
I did appreciate Trav contradicting one of Matt's "Commandments of Fandom."
Speaking for myself, just because I live in Nebraska, I'm not going to become a Chiefs fan. I'm a Bucs fan. I stuck with them through a decade of 10-plus loss seasons and will stick them if they lose 10 or more games this year, which is a distinct possibility.
There is no one team around here anyway. I know definite Chiefs fans, but I work with a Packers fan and a Broncos fan. I have a buddy who grew up in Western Iowa who is a die-hard Steeler fan.
Even around this board, there's probably not a team that has more than a few fans.
And, finally, I think we can all be grateful, for Travis' sake, that the Little League World Series didn't match up the team from Georgia against a team from Nigeria.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin

BrianF,

Let me guess? You have a framed picture of Lyell, Kent and Jim in your bedroom?

Perhaps a Bob Devaney doll in your hope chest?

Do you have a season pass for the "Ol Excuse Train"? If not don't give up hope, as I plan on resurrecting it in 1 week.

No one poster on this board is more old and tired than you Dukester. Please! Go to the tip of a hill (Nebraska) and jump, if you are still alive, climb up again and repeat step one.

lol...i couldn't have been more correct.

I flipped over to "the big show" a few minutes ago because I wanted to hear steve ryan's report.

So, Mr. Clueless decides to question Ryan about his apparent defense of Grixby earlier and says "are you saying that Grixby will have the same career in the NFL that Ralph Brown has?"

Ryan: I'm saying he takes too much blame

Moron: No, are you saying he will have the same career that Ralph Brown has?

blah blah blah.

It's THIS kind of uneducated, moronic, pizz poor "analysis" that will keep me from listening to that show while he's on there. HEY MORON! NFL career doesn't mean jack as it relates to performance in college. Grixby HAS taken more blame than he deserves...he's not great but he's not as bad as some people thing. He's good/pretty good. Justice is a f------ moron. Plain and simple. Enjoy ruining the show a-- monkey.
