I've heard Booms filling in occasionally on weekends, I think on FSR. He's still out there.
Tim, whether it's Pete or somebody else, I'd rather have a local show in the mornings. That's the definite downside to this -- locally-originated programming getting cut by 33 percent. |

I agree with the person that said Petey needs his own slot. But I doubt that he could do 6-9 since he has to be at the TV station at 10. I say give Petey Trav's old 9-11 spot.
As far as Trav coming to the Big Show. This is going make the show better I think. |

Too bad the thread with Matt stating he doesn't need a co-host is gone. Then we could compare and contrast his comments from then to his comments now.

Think of it as the reincarnation of Kiley and Booms! Yeah right, don't even go there. Kiley and Booms was the greatest show in the history of sports radio.
Certainly was the best show on radio, I have always wondered it any websites existed where you could listen to a replay of an old show.

Thanks for talking about this situation without insults.
First, as far as me being the best talk show host in the country - thank you for the kind words but I think there are much better hosts out there. I hope to get better every day and I'm no where near done developing as a host.
Travis joining my show is a good thing. I think you guys will find that it will be fun to bring him aboard on the Big Show. With Brian and myself, Travis will add another voice to the conversation. This is something that we started about 2 months ago with the Husker Football Fix at 5 and something I experienced while doing some work on show in Boston in July. I am trying to add more excitement to the show and more opinions aka more voices. Travis, whether you like him or hate him, brings opinions to the table. I'm not going away or taking a step from the show - you will hear another voice - that's all.
This is also not going to be a Husker bash festl. I am very aware of the image that some have of the show as being anti-husker. This is something I am trying to change. We are not pro-CU and anti-NU. We talk about things as we see it. I want NU to do very well this year and hope Sam Keller is great.
Thanks for everyone who is listening to the show and don't expect a major change to the show with Travis aboard. He is going add to the show and make it better.....this is a good thing and will make afternoon drive even bigger. The Big Show is simply growing.....not becoming something that you won't reckognize.

Wow...i feel like there's been a death in the family...as far as sports talk radio is concerned anyway. Travis Justice is an absolute disaster. I have never ever heard ANYONE say they like this guy. He's an absolute joke. When Jim Rome speaks of "the monkey" now I know what he's talking about (journal management).
Obviously, neither show has been getting ratings. If they were you don't fix what isn't broke. I love matt's show...but I guess I'm atypical of most husker fans. I know most husker fans HATE the show because Matt doesn't bow down. That's unfortunate but apparently has been devastating to the ratings because adding Travis Justice is just desparate and laughable. I wish husker fans would have given the show a chance. It would have spared us this slow death and spared us from having to listen to the 1620 show. BUT I will never...and I mean NEVER EVER listen to travis justice. He simply sucks. His voice is annoying. He THINKS he's funny and he's not. He likes to take the contrarian view and just doesn't pull it off well. He's a total dolt. What's even funnier is the tool knows jack squat about sports.
The writing is on the wall matt. Sorry for that. Get your resume' polished up and I guess in the next job try not to alienate 90% of your audience...and somewhat offending another strong percentage that is loyal to both the jays and the huskers. You're good at what you do but I guess you cooked your own goose early on...well, that and Husker fans are just hyper-sensitive. You know I am right...this is an act of desparation by Journal. But Travis Justice will not bring a SINGLE listener to the table...and will run off many like me. Peace out. |

| you suggesting Matt spend 4 hours gushing over Husker football? I realize if it wasn't for Husker football, the only thing Lincoln would be known for is the manufacturing of radiator hoses and fan belts, and the statecapitol. Its refreshing to hear about other things besides the Cornhuskers, and I think Trav will be a fun addition to an already great program. |

Travis will bring me to the table as a listener, RIP. There are those of us out there that got tired of Matt's tirades and inability to logically challenge listeners that called in with relevant counter-points to his rantings. I got tired of Matt never being wrong in his mind and never being willing to entertain others legitimate points.
I'll give the show a re-visit for a short time. I think Travis is just the kind of temperment Matt me need at times...but if they both just continue to run over listeners when their views aren't any more valid than the average armchair analyst I'll turn it back off and listen to Rush Limbaugh who I hate to listen to only slightly less. |

I'm just saying he alienated a large part of his audience right out of the gate. The same tactic wouldn't work in Boston or New York or Austin either. I am as big a fan of the jays as anyone...so I enjoy the diversity of his show as well. Hell, I said I loved the show. I think he's the best thing going in local sports talk. But they wouldn't be bringing in the king of all tools if the show was doing well in the ratings...and go on any message board and you'll find he's hated by husker fans. And that is the vast majority of the audience. Maybe the diverse show (i.e. other teams/sports), whether he's positive about NU or not, was the death blow...which would be unfortunate. I'm not saying the reasons for low ratings are right. Just pointing out the reality. Travis Justice is coming in a) because his show was not getting ratings and b) because neither is Matt's. All in the hopes of saving Matt's show. But it's not going work. Justice is a tool. He will ruin the show. |

It is refreshing to witness an opinion that reflects truth in a non-malicious way towards The Big Show. I was on board early on and watched Matt throw the Skers in front of the oncoming train one too many times. Not only did I personally stop listening as a result, I heard many whom gave the show a shot and once they heard the Sker bashing, they were one-and-done.
I have found it peculiarly interesting to see Perrault be so oblivious to public relations and continue to be so reckless with his antics towards the Nebraska Football program. Analogy: (Scenario: I moved to live in Maryland now) If I were to have come here to Maryland and bashed the Terrapins at every avenue and street and been in a position to need the participation of those very people that I am trashing their favorite team, do you think I would win their favor? Instead, I embraced the Terrapin Nation as a sports fan in general and as a person whom wants to experience life to the hilt. I am attending the Boston College/Maryland game at College Park and the Wake Forest/Navy game at Annapolis. In addition to attending the Iowa State game in Lincoln. That's how you develop rapport! Take a lesson from Ole' DMan! My small business is thriving partially as a result of my ability to work with and not against people.

| I have to agree with RIP on many angles. Matt almost made a point of making people want to change the channel. I was an avid listener in the beginning, but pulled away. On a trip one time, my wife asked why do you listen to that guy, all he does is complain and whine! It is fine that Matt and Travis have blue noses from being so far up CU butt that they know what they had for dinner, but when the majority of your audience is not from that group, you are going to lose ratings.....which is obvious. I wish Matt luck on his next venture, as his show just jumped the shark ! |

Ultimately shows like these largely popularize on the personality of the host. When a fragment of your personality is wearing a chip on your shoulder, being close-minded about listening to arguements against your opinions from your viewers and deliberately chiding local fans about your team...you're rating are going to suffer.
I'll be listening in again some when football season kicks off...we'll see if any of that has dramatically changed when it's the heat of the season.
But, damn, to go on and on and on for weeks like he did on the proper way to define a fan...seriously, choose your battles better. |
