Per Matt Perrault, starting next Monday Travis Justice's morning show will be done. The Big Show in the afternoon will be all Matt from 2 until 4, and then from 4 until 6 Trav and Matt will be on the air together. |

What fills the void in Travs old spot? If this is for real, it is fantastic news for the 2 - 6 crowd, I anticipate many of the sports bars in town broadcasting this new format during happy hour! Kudos, and way to go Big Sports 590! |

Dangit, I was hoping that the disappearance of Trav's show would have also meant the disappearance of Trav.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin |

This is the most disappointing news I've seen in weeks. I've had issues with the football fix at 5:00 at times, but Matt is the best sports talk show host in the country, bar none. When he posted on the old board that he wouldn't ever need the crutch of a co-host, I was heartened by that. Matt is solid as a rock as a solo host.
Now, Trav on the other hand, is not someone I'm particularly fond of as an on-air talent. In fact, I just can't see the chemistry working between them. It's Matt's show!!! You can't bring in a co-host now. With Trav on there, as much as I like Matt, I just know that I'll be looking elsewhere during that 4-6 slot.
Who is running the Journal Broadcast Group? |

I disagree in regard to this change ruining the broadcast. Travis might even at times challenge Matt which I feel will make for better listening. |

No offense, Mr. or Mrs. Arbitrator, but I hardly consider you to be an unbiased source in this discussion. After all, I'm assuming that you're in some way associated with the Journal Broadcast Group.
Perhaps next Matt will log on and explain to everyone why he loves the idea of losing his show.... |

Dave, I have a login name and password for this message board, if that in your opinion means that I am associated with Journal Broadcast Group then I guess you caught me, I'm busted! If it's all the same to you, you can be assured I'm a Mister not a Misses. Adding Trav will only improve the show, neither Matt nor Travis drink from the same cup. Think of it as the reincarnation of Kiley and Booms! |

Hi Guys, Thanks for talking about this situation without insults. First, as far as me being the best talk show host in the country - thank you for the kind words but I think there are much better hosts out there. I hope to get better every day and I'm no where near done developing as a host. Travis joining my show is a good thing. I think you guys will find that it will be fun to bring him aboard on the Big Show. With Brian and myself, Travis will add another voice to the conversation. This is something that we started about 2 months ago with the Husker Football Fix at 5 and something I experienced while doing some work on show in Boston in July. I am trying to add more excitement to the show and more opinions aka more voices. Travis, whether you like him or hate him, brings opinions to the table. I'm not going away or taking a step from the show - you will hear another voice - that's all. This is also not going to be a Husker bash festl. I am very aware of the image that some have of the show as being anti-husker. This is something I am trying to change. We are not pro-CU and anti-NU. We talk about things as we see it. I want NU to do very well this year and hope Sam Keller is great. Thanks for everyone who is listening to the show and don't expect a major change to the show with Travis aboard. He is going add to the show and make it better.....this is a good thing and will make afternoon drive even bigger. The Big Show is simply growing.....not becoming something that you won't reckognize. Thanks |

Two big questions that remain to be answered about this new change in format:
1) Where does Petey-Mac fall into this new hybrid show?
2) Does this mean there will be no Wii-Olympics II?

Answer 1 - Peteymac will be the fill-in for me when I'm on vacation and I believe Trav too.
Answer 2 - I will never do the Wii games....ever. |

Yeah right, don't even go there. Kiley and Booms was the greatest show in the history of sports radio. |

Well, I've been suggesting that it could make things more interesting if Matt had a co-host. I'll still be listening, willing to give it a shot.

I'll give it a listen off and on for a while...skeptical, but willing to see how it affects the show.
When does this transition take place? Is it live now? |

Kiley and Booms were AWESOME.
Jim Rome makes me laugh out loud every now and then. With Kiley and Booms, it was every day.
They used to do an NCAA basketball tournament bracket, where a listener would pair up with a celebrity who made his/her picks, and if your celebrity won, you got a trip to a resort in Mexico. I actually got in one year, and was paired with actor Kevin Pollack. After the first weekend, we were in last place. So that Monday, Pollack was on the show and I called in to berate him for sucking so bad (half-way jokingly). We got into this heated back-and-forth exchange (tongue in cheek). I told him he was a has-been. He said "At least I don't live in Omaha". I asked him how it felt to be the shortest actor on a set with Tom Cruise, Kevin Bacon and Demi Moore (Few Good Men). He asked how it felt to be some random radio show caller, who nobody but your mother cares about. I asked him how it felt to be on the downslope of a mediocre career.
Booms was laughing his ass off in the background. Probably my proudest (only?) radio moment.
Whatever happened to Booms? |
|
After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

Hopefully at some point Trav & Matt will actually vehemently disagree and argue to the point of having a fallout and Trav will walk off the set and dash with urgency to the corporate office to rat out Perrault. Now that would make for interesting radio with a twist! I'd have to listen to that podcast twice! |
