http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/080517&sportCat=nfl You know, I have mixed feelings on this. I agree that he should of been. I think the best message that the NFL could have sent was to suspend Belichick rather than simply fining him $500,000 (or whatever it was). Let's face it, a fine like that is stupid for a coach. It doesn't affect the salary cap and you can bet the team will "repay" that in some shape or form. But, to go back now and suspend Belichick? Will it really have the same effect? What does that say about Goodell for not doing it up front? At this point, I think it just needs to be buried and we need to move forward with better NFL-lead surprise visits and other measure to counter these types of potential issues in the future. |

Depends on what you mean by "defending" him. I never defended anything he did. I was fully on board with the punishment from day one and thought he probably actually should of been suspended at least one game, however, I think most of the people whining about what happened that can't really quantify the benefit of what went on need to come up with a more solid case about why it deserves much more severe penalty.
And, no, I don't feel too badly for professional teams that don't switch up their signals or use wrist bands. Two very effective means of eliminating any real advantage of taping, or monitoring, signals. |

He probably should have been suspended. Of course, Boston homers, especially ones with access to microphones, continue to soft-pedal and kiss Bellicheat's backside. Now, do I believe the Patriots were the only team doing this? No. But do I believe the Patriots gained a competitive advantage and that's why they did it? Absolutely. Goodell screwed up the handling of this by destroying the first batch of tapes. Even if he wasn't hiding something, he created the impression that he was. And here's hoping Pennsylvania voters will find somebody to replace Arlin "To Hell With The Economy, Iraq War and Immigration, I Want To Get The Eagles The Lombardi Trophy Retroactively" Specter. |

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin |

Here's the difference between two similar topics that Matt discusses...
Bonds = speculated cheater
Belichick = proven cheater |

| New England is a morally bankrupt organization. No wonder Randy Moss wanted to play for this band of outlaws. |
