There are a lot of 6'7", 310 pound O-lineman. What makes someone like Long (hopefully, assumably), or Boselli, or Roaf, or Ogden, or Pace so much better than other guys of equal size?

I'm sure it's a combination of technique, strength, conditioning and preparation. But does that mean busts like Mandarich and Gallery don't work as hard? They seem to have the same raw size and strength. What separates great 6'7, 310 pounder O-lineman from disappointing ones?

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Pretty boring pick for Tuna, but I think probably the right one. Long allowed 1 sack in his college carreer. He must be doing something right. But remember......the Big 10 has been down for a few years, so were his opponents really that good. Time is the judge.

Counting the Herd one hoof at a time.

Joe Thomas wasn't a bust.

I wouldn't put Gallery in the same class as Mandarich, Robert is still playing and starting on an NFL squad.

Not too many highly touted college lineman even stick around as long as Gallery has.

I've seen Jake Long play in person and he is deserving of being the top pick in the draft.

It's my fault," said first-year Nebraska coach Bo Pelini. "Damn right, yes, I'm embarrassed. I apologized to the team. I apologize to the state of Nebraska. I apologize to everyone associated with Nebraska football.
"It's my responsibility. I was hired to do a job and I didn't do the job, I'm just not a very good coach.

I think the point was more the fact that he is a bust.

Hard to understand how you can be a bust and at the same time be a starter in the NFL.

Isn't bust reserved for those who last one year or never get beyond training camp?

No, I'd say you're a bust if you don't live up to expectations...especially in the case of 1st round picks, and maybe even more so in the case of top ten picks.

The whole concept of being a bust is largely expectation based.

Look, I am not saying this just to "bash Iowa". I've actually defended Gallery on this topic to some degree in other venues. You're right he is starting in the NFL and that's noteworthy, but still vastly underachieving for where he was drafted.

And don't throw Mandarich too far under the bus...he came back and had a respectable stint with the Colts after being cut by Green Bay. So, in a sense, he did redeem himself somewhat. Just not enough to shed the "bust" label and like it or not in most peoples minds I think Gallery is going to be considered a bust. When you get drafted that high expectations are extremely high. People expected Gallery to do what Joe Thomas did.
