| Well there's about eleventy billion threads over at the Planet regarding this if you'd like to wade through them and try to make sense of it, but the way I understand it is that KC is free to trade him for whatever they want unless someone wants to give up the two 1sts, and right now nobody is willing to do that. |

Posted By Bugeater on 04/22/2008 9:42 AM Yes, he can be "taken away" but the Vikes don't want to give up the two 1sts, at least not right now. There's been rumors that they may wait until after the draft and make the offer with a poison pill, and then give up their firsts in '09 and '10. Meanwhile KC still retains his rights and are free to trade him. I guess this is the statement that was confusing to me... If Minnesota poison pills him then first off KC isn't likely to ante up what it'll take to retain the rights. However, if they do ante up, Minnesota isn't "out" their picks. It sounded as if some Planet guys thought KC could essentially screw Minnesota right back, but I think that comes at too high of a price. If Minn poison pills them...Allen is theirs, imo. KC would be retarded to try and counter because the cost would be even higher and at that point no one is going to trade for him with KC. |

| OK, I see where we got off track. When I said MIN may wait until after the draft to make an offer, that would be a contract offer to JA, not a trade offer with KC. Two different kinds of offers there, and I wasn't clear about which one I was referring to. Yes, if MIN makes JA a contract offer after the draft with the poison pill, he's theirs, but then KC gets the two firsts, but nothing this year. That could be a risky move if MIN wants him because supposedly there is other interest in him, but so far no one has made KC a better trade offer as of yet. |

Ok, gotcha...
Yeah, I agree. Although, if I were Minnesota, and if I REALLY wanted him, then I'd probably take that gamble. I don't think anyone wants him that bad. And I think Minnesota wants him most of all.
Be interesting to see what happens... |

| If the Chiefs were smart, they'd offer Larry Johnson to the Seahawks for 8 future first round picks. The way Seattle is running things up there, I wouldn't be shocked if they accepted. You can never have enough running backs. Well, you can, but that seems to be Holmgren's motto. |

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

Sounds like it's a done deal, the Vikes give up a 1st and two 3rds in this years draft for Jared Allen. I have to give it to Carl on this one, I think he did pretty damn good under the circumstances. This gives the Chiefs a total of 13 draft picks, 6 of them the first day. Round 1, Pick 5 Round 1, Pick 17 (From Vikings) Round 2, Pick 4 Round 3, Pick 3 Round 3 Pick 10 (From Vikings) Round 3 Pick 19 (From Vikings) Round 4, Pick 6 Round 5, Pick 1 (From Dolphins) Round 5, Pick 5 Round 6, Pick 4 Round 6, Pick 21 (From Buccaneers) Round 7, Pick 3 Round 7, Pick 32 (From Giants) They'll probably still suck next year, but at least I'll have a lot of new players to b*tch about. |

Smart deal for KC. I like Allen, but Minn just overpaid. Then again, they are contending as the favorites now in that division. Although, the report I am reading says 1ts and 2nd, not two 3rd rounders. At any rate, I'd be excited, Carl Peterson can screw up two first round picks this year. |

Vikings | Team acquires J. Allen, agrees to terms on contract Tue, 22 Apr 2008 21:14:13 -0700
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms on a contract with Kansas City Chiefs DE Jared Allen. The Vikings will give the Chiefs their 2008 first-round draft pick, two third-round picks and the teams will swap sixth-round picks with the Vikings acquiring Allen. Allen has also agreed to terms on a six-year deal worth just under $74 million with $31,000,069 guaranteed. No. 69 is his jersey number. |

| BTW, the last two numbers of that contract amount is a reflection of Allen's eighth grade mentality. At least that was the age I quit thinking the number "69" was so funny and fresh. |

Yeah, ESPN reported it incorrectly originally on their web page....it originally said "included a second round pick " now it says "included a second third-round pick", so typical ESPN error.

| Isn't that why KC wouldn't give him a long term deal? He might just have the same problem Hershel Walker has. When he drinks....he calls his chauffeur (self) and asks him (self) to drive him home. |

| If Peterson picks well this weekend, the Chiefs could be a contender a year or two down the road. Geez...13 draft picks??? This could be like Dallas in the late 80's when the gave up Walker to the Vikes and got all those picks and basically drafted the NFL's dynasty of the 90's. |

| You do see the common thread there........at the hands of the Vikings stupidity. You'd think they'de learn what with the cluster f#cks of the Vikings, Twins and Timberwolves in dealing with personnel issues. |

Well, I don't know...at least THIS move isn't crippling the Vikings. It'll hurt them going forward, but conversely they are adding a guy that's going to make their D better. But it could merit short term gain. Assuming the get decent QB improvement.
But, yeah, no way I give up that much for Allen. |

| The cash in and of itself is huge, but then you have to compensate KC as well. In the short run, it definitley helps both teams. You have a proven, young D end to solidify the defensive side of the ball for Minnesota and KC gets draft picks to help shore up some of their shortcomings, provided they make the right decisions. But damn that's a lot of scratch. |

I didn't know you could draft a head coach. You can trade for one...pretty close. Yep, and the Chiefs basically have, they've given up draft picks for their last two coaches. Oh, and I love the timing of this , the day after Jared Allen gets traded this comes out: SI.com's Don Banks reports that if Jared Allen stays incident free until September, the NFL will wipe his two past strikes off the books. His most recent DUI would be exactly two years old at that time and the league would no longer hold it against him. Another DUI before September might get Allen suspended for an entire year. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/don_banks/04/23/snaps/index.html?eref=si_nfl Thanks Goodell, you dickhead. |
