1. QB Position Depth

This is a deep draft at the QB position. You have Ryan, Brohm, Henne and Flacco at the top. You also have Booty, Woodson, Brennan, Ainge and my favorite sleeper, Dixon.

There WILL be talent at the top of the second round.

2. Non-QB Position Depth

There is a lot of talent at the top of this draft. Atlanta and Baltimore are the two teams most needing a QB in the top ten and with the talent at other positions I think you draft a guy that can make an immediate impact on day one. There are easily 5 or 6 other guys equitable to Ryan that can come in and be that impact player and, again, you're not sacrificing much with the QB
talent that will be remaining.

3. Historically, First Round QB's Don't Live Up

Here are the first rounders, with some subjective grades, going back to 2000.

2007
Russell, Quinn - both INC
2006
Young (B-), Leinart (C), Cutler (C)
2005
A. Smith (C), A. Rodgers (INC), J. Campbell (C+)
2004
E. Manning(B-), P. Rivers(B-), B. Roethlisberger(A-), J. Losman(C-)
2003
C. Palmer(A-), B. Leftwich(D),K. Boller(D),R. Grossman(D)
2002
D. Carr(C-), J. Harrington(C-), P Ramsey(D)
2001
M. Vick(B)
2000
C. Pennington(C-)

Again, these are subjective, I graded purely on ability (as evidenced with Vick).

Point being, generally first rounders are below average QB's. There is nothing, or very little, in my mind that distinguishes Ryan from being a Carson Palmer versus a Joey Harrington.

So, in my opinion it's not worth the gamble when there are arguably more sure picks that can make a day one impact on your franchise.

If you invest in a QB that early, imo, you've GOT to believe this is your guy for the next 7 to 10 years.

So, if Miami does believe he's their guy for the next 7-10 years, you won't fault them for taking him?

As for your grading of QBs past, I would disagree that Leftwich gets a lower grade than Losman, Carr, Harrington and even Alex Smith at this point. Leftwich was a good QB for several years. The same can't be said for the aforementioned other four guys.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I would fault them because I disagree, but I wouldn't fault them for their reasoning just their decision of the fact that he is worth that investment.

But no need to worry, Tuna isn't going to gamble on him.

One, it was, and is, subjective. Two, it was rather quick to make a broader point that generally they don't pan out.

If I took the time I'd probably adjust some of them.

Carr and Harrington would probably both be D's, but Losman and Smith are still making runs at starting, so I'd leave them probably. Doesn't really matter...basic point is the same.

I was nitpicking a bit, and I knew the QB grades weren't the point of your post. I thought Losman was done in Buffalo though. and without a starting gig. Maybe I'm wrong.

You may not of been, but you were right...it helps reiterate the point that I didn't mean the grades to be too teribly in depth.

Regarding Losman, so did I at the end of last year...but then I thought I heard this off season he was being given a shot again. I don't follow Buffalo that closely.

Arthur Blank is betting the franchise on another QB. I don't get that mentality, personally. At least it's not as bad as Houston doing it as a new franchise.

Personally, I would of build some more infrastructure this year and waited to get a QB, but they must really believe Ryan is the real deal. We'll see...

Brennan is the new Kliff Klingsbury.
Flacco's going to get thrown to the wolves in Baltimore way too early. We'll see if he can recover.
Dixon's a nice sleeper for the future, I agree. He'll most likely be the No. 3 guy behind Big Ben and Batch this season.
Still wondering why Gruden drafted the Johnson kid out of San Diego, since he tends to dislike any quarterback under the age of 35.
And don't even get me started on them bringing Sam Keller (and, yes, Corey "No Fun Zone" McKeon) to that team.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin

Yet another in the long line of preposterous conjures of egami. Everyone knew Michael Vick had just been sent to prison and was all but gone for good for the Falcons. Everyone knew the Falcons picked third in the draft.

Matt Ryan is 6'4, 225 pounds with a cannon arm and cool as luke under pressure.

He went third in the draft to the Falcons.

Yeah, and once again, reading comprehension fails...I've stated numerous times I expected him to be picked in the top ten and probably top five.

The point, again, was why he wasn't in MY book...learn to read, please...I am paying for you people to get educated. We do have adult education aid.

Wow! If that wasn't Imus esque. And please don't attempt to portray the story line that you set out to garner this result.

What your problem is egami is: You are one of these people that get "fixated." And once you do you cannot recover. You'd stick to your stance even against a mountain of evidence and a nation of doomsdayers against it.

Good thing you're not a lawyer.

It's not Imus-esque, it's a fact, if I were Indian I wouldn't be uneducated like you are. If you're truly Native American, then there is no excuse for that lack of grammar, spelling and education you display daily.

I also wouldn't be deliberately racist.

And please don't attempt to portray the story line that you set out to garner this result.

REading comprehension? I haven't worked in the social work field in years. I've stated that before.

I don't have to lie...it's $700 a day while on the road. I have an hourly rate but it is rarely needed.
