*Excluding Kiffin and Phillips. I think it's obvious that anyone in Oakland is on the hot seat and Phillips is a filler until Garrett takes the helm.

1. Marv Lewis

Not a lot of rumbling about Lewis on many sites and that's why I am putting him at #1. He is a career .500 coach that hasn't solved defensive problems and has an offense that, imo, under performs.

2.Herm Edwards

And couple with him a GM that should also be on the hot seat. I don't think I really need to explain this one.

3. John Fox

John is a guy that need a Gruden-esque performance to extend his stay, imo. And really, a wild card loss maybe won't cut it either.

I'd add Jim Zorn to the list. He DOES work for Dan Snyder.

Counting the Herd one hoof at a time.

Lovie Smith should worry some. The Bears' window may be closing. Personally, I don't blame him that much. Management never got him a QB, yet he still got them to the Super Bowl. But if they win 6 or 7 games this season, I could see a move being made, despite the recent extension.

How come no one mentions Shanahan? Should he feel comfortable right now? When you factor in the Maurice Clarett drafting (which I understand was primarily his decision), with the Broncos lack of any postseason success lately, maybe the pressure will be turned up a bit more this season.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Because, despite the fact I hate the guy, I think a coach with two AFC Championships and two SB wins and historic winning record has earned more rope.

I've heard mixed things on the Clarrett deal. I've heard Sundquist played that card. I am not sure what the truth is, but we know who is gone.

I would put him in up there, but not in the top three.

It's pretty tough to fire a 2 time Super Bowl winning coach, although Jerry Jones has been known to do it.

I'd have to add Mike Nolan in San Francisco and Scott Linehan in St. Louis.

Oh, I think the full list is about 8 or so...

Nolan, Linehan, Marinelli, Payton, Mangini

My list focused on, or centered on, some guys with longevity, however. Especially #1.

I thought about throwing Andy Reid on there actually.

Hasn't Andy Reid already said this is his last year? I thought I read that somewhere (I could be wrong). That poor guy has some serious family issues.

Mangini is safe because he singlehandledly saved the league by exposing cheaters like the New England Patriots. Mangini is the Jose Canseco of the NFL, i.e. he cheated himself, but then told on others when it could benefit him.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I had heard that rumor about Reid, but I guess I haven't seen that quote showing he's actually expressed that.

Frankly, imo, he's ten years too late on the kid issues.

Reid and Mike Holmgren, I believe, are both retiring after this season.

Instead of firing Kiffin and Zorn -- how about we just handcuff Al Davis and Dan Snyder to a couple of 100-pound weights and send them about five miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico for an afternoon swim?

Yeah, I knew Holmgren was pretty much done. I think that was happening either way though...

Shanahan had better hope he doesn't get the axe;

Shanahans' new home a virtual stadium

The sprawling ranch home Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is building in Cherry Hills Village will have amenities that would make any kid's eyes pop.

Designed by Sall Residential Design Group, the 34,927-square-foot home includes a bowling alley and lounge, a poker room, a video-golf room, a racquetball court and a shuffleboard table, according to the building permit filed with Cherry Hills Village.

And that's just in the basement, where there also will be four bedrooms.

The main level includes two studies, a gallery, a music and living room, a gathering room, a dining room, a conservatory, a kids' arcade and playroom, and two bedrooms, including a master suite with his and hers closets.

There are six fireplaces; a 3,600-square-foot, six-car garage; a 2,150-square-foot guest house; a "wine residence" and guest house; a swimming pool; and two bridges.

Through a Broncos spokesman, Shanahan confirmed that he and his wife, Peggy, are building a new home that will be completed in about a year.

While large by any standard, the Shanahans' home doesn't quite measure up to the Aspen home of Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz and his wife, Princess Haifa. They put their 56,000-square-foot home on the market a few years ago for $135 million.

The Shanahans bought the 3.5-acre lot where they are building the home from Janet Elway for $4 million. So far, the cost to build the home is at least $7.6 million, according to the building permits.

"It's the most prestigious community in Cherry Hills," said Denver real-estate agent Rollie Jordan, who specializes in luxury real estate. "There are a lot of recognizable Denver names who live on the street."

During construction, the Shanahans are living in a nearby home that Shanahan sold to a friend in January for $16 million.

Shanahan, the Broncos' head coach since 1995 and the second-longest-tenured coach in the NFL, signed a three-year contract extension with the team last year. He is believed to be one of the best-paid coaches in the league, at more than $5 million a year.
