Hey guys, I was just flicking through the channels and came across the '99 NU/CU game on Channel 7. It's halftime right now at 12:20 pm today. Just thought I'd let you guys know if you want to watch some football. Crouch, Buckhalter, Alexander, Wistrom, Riaolo, Newcombe on offense. It's 24-3 at halftime. Even if you are a Husker hater, it's football to watch to get you pumped up for the upcoming season so sit down, shut up and most of all...Enjoy!!! 2007's Championship Predictions: All of my favorite teams: Huskers, Rams, Suns, Avalanche, and Red Sox. Hey, can't a guy dream??? |

So after leading 24-3 at halftime and outgaining the Buffaloes in total yardage for the first half 312-127, the second half of the game was a total turn around. In the first half, Dan Alexander had 150+ yards on 8 carries and 3 TD's, including scampers of 53 and 80. Eric Crouch had 118 yards rushing in the first half. Huskers added a Josh Brown field goal in the 3rd quarter, but only managed 31 yards of total offense. Colorado scored 24 points in the 4th to tie it up and had a shot to put it away with :01 second left with a FG but it was wide right and went into OT. Now remember, NU's only loss was a 20-16 loss to the Longhorns in Austin, and K State's only loss was to NU. Nebraska was ranked #3 entering the day of this game. The North came down to this game. Nebraska wins, they get the rematch in the Big 12 Championship with Texas, Colorado wins, and K State represents the North in the title game. Also, #5 Texas lost the day of this game to Texas A&M. This was also the season that the Huskers led the nation in fumbles and fumbles lost, which was the most in a season since the year I was born, 1967. In this game, the Huskers had 8 fumbles and lost 5 of them, Colorado had 6 and lost 2. So that fumble fact in itself was amazing that more games were not lost than the one against Texas. In OT, Colorado kicked a FG to open the scoring, and NU responded with a TD to put it away 33-30. Total yardage was NU 400-CU 510, which like I said was a total turn around from the first half stats. And it was awesome to see some big named Blackshirts in action wearing the scarlet and cream: Ralph and Mike Brown, Tony Ortiz, Clint Finley, Kyle VandenBosch, Steve Warren, Jason Lohr, Carlos Polk, just to name a few. Also, Craver, Kelsay, Stella, Jackson, and Wills. And a few names that I left out of the topic opener on offense: Matt Davison, and Russ Hochstein, and Willie Miller. Special teams: Josh Brown and Dan Hadenfeldt(sp?). Hadenfeldt was spectacular in this game averaging 57 yards a punt including clutch 60+ yarders a few times and his last punt of 59 yards going out of bounds at the Buffs 5. For those of you who don't remember the rest of that season, NU went on to the Big 12 Title Game and beat Texas 22-6,(which btw is still the Huskers only win over the Longhorns since Big 12 play began in "96), then went on to the Fiesta Bowl and beat Phillip Fulmers Volunteers, ending the season 12-1, ranked 2nd behind Bobby Bowden's National Champion Seminoles. 2007's Championship Predictions: All of my favorite teams: Huskers, Rams, Suns, Avalanche, and Red Sox. Hey Screamin', I knew you would surface come football season. One of my buddies in Omaha called a few hours ago and told me about it. Some of the names he was talking (Polk, Ortiz, etc.) were just blasts from the past. How's things? In case you didn;t know I live on the east coast now. Maryland to be exact. I will always be a Husker though and am returning in late October for a visit. |
