This will differ for individuals. I grew up with Metallica, who transcended generations really, and largely the "Seattle Bands", but I also appreciated some older school bands.

Just looking through my iTunes library a couple sparked memories of old...

Tesla, Living Colour, U2...

I really like Tesla. Not sure what it was. A lot of people like them for their famous rock ballads, but really they could flat out jam too.

What other old schools bands are on your list. Which will vary for us all as we seem to range in age from 20's to 40's.

Holy crap, how many do I need to list? I have a pretty wide range of tastes.

As a kid in the 70s, ELO was probably my favorite. I liked the early Styx, Aerosmith, REO Speedwagon and Journey, but not the later bubble-gum versions of those bands. Pink Floyd is up there too, their music is timeless.

Some others in no particular order:

April Wine
Dokken
Judas Priest
The Moody Blues
Triumph
Paul McCartney & Wings
Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship
Kansas
Hall & Oates
ABBA
Steve Miller Band
Black Sabbath
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

My favorite bands of all time are probably Little Feat and the Eagles but a few more from the 70's and 80's (mostly 70's)

AC/DC
Molly Hatchet
Cream/Eric Clapton
Doobie Brothers
Foghat
Jackson Brown
CCR
Fleetwood Mac
Nazareth
Allman Brothers
Head East
Three Dog Night
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Outfield
ZZ Top
Boston
The Who
and Van Halen with David Lee Roth

And how could I forget the Doors.

Metallica has been rockin' for 27 years and how can anyone not inlcude G n' R? The crazy thing is during the height of their popularity these two band toured together. God i would give anythnig to see thos two in concert together even though Hetfield would probably blow him self up again, and Axel would instigate a riot. But it would the best damn riot i would ever be in. BTW David Lee Roth is a punk! Nice spandex and way to show your bulge, and he is a d-bag

If you want to get really old school, I have some Tchachovsky, Beethoven and Mozart in my CD collection.

I've got to admit.....I don't know very many bands from the late 80's to present. I've got some Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Steffani, Josh Groban, INXS (current), Outkast.......for some current music, but most of mine is older, older music for older, older folk.

Yeah, he is the lead singer.

Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child of Mine, November Rain, Paradise City...to name some of their most popular.

wes, I thought we were talking about the music? Honestly, I never noticed the bulge in his spandex. It was the eighties for cry'in out loud, age of the parachute pants, spandex, and big hair.

hey man i am much cooler with parachute pants then the spandex. I just hate David Lee Roth, i can't stand the guy, the band had a couple of ok songs, but everytime i hear Jump, i can't get the picture of him doing the mid Jump leg splits he does and sticking his ass towards the camera.
