The top-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team clinched its 21st national team title and its first since 2000 Saturday morning at the 2008 NCAA Championships in St. Louis, MO.

That's enough to make even John Wooden jealous.

Way to go Hawks, welcome home Tom Brands!

It's my fault," said first-year Nebraska coach Bo Pelini. "Damn right, yes, I'm embarrassed. I apologized to the team. I apologize to the state of Nebraska. I apologize to everyone associated with Nebraska football.
"It's my responsibility. I was hired to do a job and I didn't do the job, I'm just not a very good coach.

Dukie -- props to the Hawkeyes on getting back to the top of the heap. They wrestled a fabulous tournament and looked solid all the way around.

The Huskers came back to finish fourth after a really crappy Friday that saw one wrestler fail to make weight (which is impeccably stupid) and two lose heartbreaking semifinal matches. They don't beat the Hawkeyes if those things don't happen, but they could have finished a lot closer than Ohio State and made it a more interesting team race.

They only lose their senior heavyweight, so they're going to be in the mix to win it all next year. Don't know what Iowa loses, but with Brands as coach they could throw 10 Fergies and Dwights in there and be in the hunt.

It was a great tounament for the Hawkeyes. I just got back. They will lose Fields at HWT and their 165 lb champion Perry, but they should be solid for next year, however so will a half a dozen other teams. Slaten wrestled solid and got caught in the finals......too bad for him, but he's just a soph. Metcalf was the tournament's outstanding wrestler and won the championship in by far the toughest weight class at 149. Cornell will be very tough next year with the return of Nickerson who took the year off to try out for the olympics, but they have a solid team coming back. Also Ohio State crowned 2 underclassmen champs as well, but didn't have the supporting cast to get it done. Nebraska has a slew of underclassmen all-americans returning and will make a run as well. And then their's Iowa State, who will be tough again as well.

Should be interesting next year.

I actually won our wrestling pool..........don't think I'll fair as well in the NCAA basketball pool.

So is the kid from Creighton Prep Oliver still wrestling for Nebraska or did his eligibility expire?

He has two years of eligibility left, I believe. He battled through knee injuries much of this past year and didn't qualify after qualifying last year. If he gets back to 100 percent and the Huskers find a capable heavyweight to replace May, they will be one of the teams to beat next year.

Hey thanks Seahawk. I knew his father Ray Oliver who was a heck of a wrestler himself at Omaha Tech.

Brent Metcalf is awesome. I doubt he'll achieve his team goal of 300 points. Lofty goal.

That was an exageration dumbass, not a goal.

It's not impossible, but in order to do it a team would have to qualify all 10, have all 10 reach the finals and pick up enough bonus points for majors, tech falls and pins along the way.

Omaha Skutt put up 250-plus each of the past two years at state, and if they had 2-3 more in the finals they would have flirted with 300. But that's with a 14-man team, not 10.

a.) exageration is spelled exaggeration - dumbass.
b.) I believe Metcalf is being sincere. He wants to dominate as an individual and as a team - dumbass.

Metcalf was merely stating that they want to dominate the competition. 300 points is not possible at the DI level. Considering the current point total record is 170.....maybe 200, which I saw in another Metcalf quote on the same topic.

Fergie, you correcting spelling is rather comical. You have butchered the english language quite extensively here since your non eventful arrival to the board; most notable, "loser" is spelled F-E-R-G-I-E.

My apologies for misspelling "exaggeration". Now you apologize for being an idiot by taking that comment by Metcalf literally.

Which session was it that the short bus kids got to come watch? I must've missed that announcement. I think that's great the "special" kids were able to attend. Be sure to send a thank you letter to the United Way for sponsoring you.
