17,000 average this season. They take away the beer and Creighton draws less then 8000. If they move the game to the civic I'm not sure if they will sell it out. Typical Creighton "fan". How does "the big show" spin this around?

I think the fact that the game was a 9PM start time contest took away from the overall attendance.

I would guess that had more to do with it than the beer.

9,427 vs 7,948

Enough with the Nebraska fans need to show up for games. Creighton "fans" are pathetic. What?! We can't drink? Then why the f*ck would he want to go to the game? Let's just go downtown and get sloshed on the bars!! How will Creighton's #1 fan explain this? I would love to hear the spin but they don't post the show on the podcast anymore.

They still put the show on podcasts, but to save you the trouble Matt blamed the start time like Dman mentioned, and he said something about many fans being more interested in the NCAA tourney coming up. Maybe, but the beer is probably part of the equation as well.

No way the NCAA tourney had jack to do with it. I could see start time being an issue for gray hairs and casual fans and beer for a number of others. Then the fact it's not as important as the NCAA tourney. But it's not like people are getting rest for the first round NCAA games.

nebrasketball, you created a profile just to bag on the CU crowd at the game? Wow! smallest crowd in in years and it still would have filled up you arena. "the fans didn't go b/c the was no beer" lame excuse. the fans didn't go b/c 1)late start time!!!! 9 pm game on a tuesday. i don't know about you, but i have to be at work at 7 am. i wasn't the most excited aboutt he late start time, i still went and got back at around 1130, and i was wiped out for the day. now i have a few co workers who didn't go b/c of the late start time. they have kids, and who is goingto let there 7 yr old stay out till 1130 on a school night to watch a game?? for many CU games are a family affair, and it was too late to take the kids out. 2)unlike your pathetic city (which reminds me of 40th and Dodge, but covers you entire city) we have basketball all week. now i would love to watch quality basketball (not nebrasketball) all week but i cannot afford it, and many people cannot afford 3 night of basketball. people had to be pick, choose and budget to which events they could attend. Me, i picked the NIT game. 3) unlike Nebraska, it is a little disappointing to make the NIT as oppose to the big dance. we are use to going to post season after post season. now nebraska might be thrilled to make their first NIT in couple of years. i guess nebrska fans we so bored last post season by staing at home, that they decided to go out and watch a game that they might not see again for a couple of years.

7948 attended the CU game. the two time defending national champs, drew in 5188 last night. just food for thought.

Nebrasketball, go back to your big red message board and get all geeked up for Mississippi. here, i'll help you spell it M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I

Well, frankly, if my team was in the NIT instead of defending a national title in the real tourney I'd expect attendance to be way down. D1 majors don't look at the NIT quite the same way as mid-majors do. Especially when they've been pretty good in recent years.

And, yes...the beer has something to do with it, trust me. My cousin is director of concessions at three locations for a firm that contracts with NCAA, NFL, MLB and other venues...he's shown me the numbers. If you beer it, they will come. It's a much larger factor than one might think.

ok, you have numbers to prove it ok, i'll buy that. i guess i should have made things a little more clear. I am not saying beer was the only resone people didn't go to the game. if you have numbers and facts to back it up then ok. on average 15000 go to the games, and 8000 showed up on tuesday. i just don't think that 7000 people didn't show up b/c there was no beer. there were many factors that that caused the attendence to be down. i think people are putting to muh thought into the no beer aspect.

No, we generally agree, I think time slot was the biggest factor. I was just mentioning it because it kind of intrigued me when he was showing me stuff.

Either way, the no beer aspect is better than Perrault's stupid idea that somehow the NCAA tourney had anything to do with it.

Your cousin is a beer vendor? (Director of concession -- lol)

I'll buy the beer arguement only to a point. The late start time and the fact that it is the NIT were far more contributing factors than lack of beer.

I don't know what is title is...he oversees, manages concessions for two NFL teams and two D1 schools currently.

He's pulling well over 6 figures, so laugh if you want. Pretty good jack for a guy that spend most of spring and summer golfing in the Gulf.

Beer was about 10th on the list of reasons why the crowd was so "low".

It was a 9 PM game on a Tuesday night, with only 48 hours of advanced notice. If the game was at 7 PM, there would have been thousands more. There were barely any chldren/families there b/c of the time. They were all diehards, which is why it was the loudest crowd of the year, even though it was the smallest.

Other factors: 1. The NCAA is here this week. You can only go to so many bball games in a week, and the NCAA had MONTHS of advanced notice. 2. The night before was St. Patrick's Day. 3. It's the N.I.T., a tournament many feel is irrelevant.

I generally don't have a problem with Nebraska basketball fan. I want the Huskers to do well. But "Nebraska basketball fans who feel inferior to Creighton" (i.e. the guy who started this thread) are some of the biggest idiots around, and ridiculously jealous.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

Yeah, I don't really get the whole NU vs CU thing, IMO it's an apples to oranges comparison. Basketball is CU's primary sport in a mid-major conference and it's a secondary sport for NU in a power conference. I suppose the hard feelings have to do with the head to head beatdowns NU has suffered, but OTOH hand CU fans have done their share of chest thumping with their recent successes as well. There's plenty of jerkoff fans on both sides.

the reason we hate each ohter is little brother syndrome. for years NU was the big brother, always beating the hell out of us. then the little brother startedto grow up, and we got bigger and better then the big brother. NU fans long for the days when they beat us regularly, and CU fans are still a little sore from all those a$$ kickin's we took over the years.

wes134, believe it or not, I didn't create a profile just to bash Creighton is purely ironic. Second, I was born and raised in the Millard area. I just moved cross country last month, hense, not being able to get the signal. Next, I'm not bashing Creighton. I happen to think Creighton is the best university in the midwest. My comments were more towards Creighton #1 fan who keeps commenting on Nebraska's poor attendence throughout the year. Now when Creighton has sh!tty attendence, I just want to know the excuse. My response to the late start excuse is that over 75% of the crowd at the Devaney come from the Omaha area. When you have to leave 45 minutes before the game and then after the game you have another 45 minutes drive the attendence is bound to be average. Bottomline is I really don't care about it, I'm dishing it back to CU #1 fan. I would really like to go back to the time 3 years ago when Creighton fan was apathetic towards Nebraska fan and vise versa.

I am both an NU grad (twice over) and a fan of all things Husker. I am also an Omaha resident and support Creighton's efforts. Does not mean I am a fan per se....I just prefer when they are successful 363 days a year (+1 on the leap years). It is good for Omaha...a city I care a lot about.

I do not remember the precise comments Doc made earlier in the season that pissed off so many Creighton fans, so I will admit that I might be wrong in my point....I am sure Creighton fan will remind me if I am.

Anyway, I think that all of the factors heretofore discussed as being responsible for the smaller attendance at the CU NIT game are valid. They are all in the mix. I think this game highlights what Doc was saying about actual basketball fans versus casual fans who attend for the social event. For all of the reasons talked about above, Creighton was unsuccessful in drawing those social event people.

Just my take....look forward to other's thoughts.

Nebrasketball -- I understand why you want to give some back to Creighton. I just thought the way you went about it was ignorant. There were so many factors causing the lower attendance -- beer didn't make the Top 5.

If you want to bash Creighton, bash our baseball attendance. We want to be on the same level as Nebraska, but we're not. Our attendance to baseball games is SAD.

With regards to fan support, Nebraska is a football/baseball/women's volleyball school -- Creighton has basketball. If anything, you could bash the Jays for only supporting one of its athletic teams. Nebraska's support for its basketball team is pretty weak, but getting better. Next time some Creighton fan pisses you off with a comment about basketball attendance, tell them you support basketball more than Creighton supports baseball. It's true.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

vranged, the thing is I really don't care about Creighton's attendence, preseaon, regular season, post etc. The comments were just a jab at Creighton's #1 fan. I'm not interested in getting into a pissing contest with other people on this board. I found the forum when I came to search for the podcast and just wanted to come here to have some fun and talk sports.

Speaking of Creighton baseball I see they play the Hawkeyes at Rosenblatt on April 16th, I think it might be Coach Dahm's first match up against Creighton since he left for Iowa City.

I also see where Nebraska plays the Hawks in Iowa City on April 8th which will be carried by the Big 10 Network!
