Recently Minnesota Timberwolf owner Glen Taylor made negative remarks regarding Kevin Garnett. Taylor claims Garnett "tanked" it by going to California to nurse a sore knee while a Timberwolf.

I find it difficult to concur with any belief that Garnett ever sluffed on anything concerning basketball. The guy lays it all out there and plays harder than most guys.

For me, it begs to wonder if Taylor isn't a bit jealous of Garnett's success in Boston. What I found most refreshing about this little story was Garnett's response.

Why can't more NBA players these days display the class that Kevin Garnett did in handling this matter.

Note a portion of the article from MSN:

Garnett “tanked?”

Garnett’s problem is that he doesn’t have an off button, and Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor should know that better than most. For years, the Timberwolves tried to cut back Garnett’s playing time only to watch him punch in for another 39-minute night. During a six-season stretch he missed only three games.

Yet on Tuesday Taylor told reporters in Minnesota that Garnett “tanked it” when he sat out last season’s final five games to go to California to get his sore right knee checked. Team officials publicly supported Garnett’s decision at the time it was announced.

After Tuesday’s game, Garnett called Taylor’s comments “nonsense” in an on-court interview with TNT. Speaking to reporters 40 minutes later in the locker room, he again declined to criticize Taylor, instead thanking him for the opportunity to “fulfill my dream.”

“Glen Taylor was good to me while I was a Timberwolf and I’m a Boston Celtic now,” Garnett said. “I’m not going to be going back and forth saying tasteless things. That’s not my character. I’ll let him speak if he wants to.

“I have nothing to do with the Minnesota Timberwolves. That’s in my past. I’m in a new chapter in my life.”

Keep living your dream Kevin and let Mr. Taylor be bitter if he must.

If anyone "tanked" it was Taylor by not going out and finishing the deal by building around a franchise caliber player.

Maybe, but one has to wonder if that ridiculous contract KG had any effect on that. I don't know about the nuts and bolts of their financial situation. Not to mention that Minneapolis isn't exactly the most attractive place for an NBA star to go. Who knows.

I'd be curious as to your thoughts about the contract and why it'd be the issue...you claiming maybe he was coasting or that it strapped the T-wolves so they couldn't make a move?

I think Bugeater is saying that paying KG so much strapped the franchise. McHale made mention to that a couple of years ago. (Of course not mentioning KG's name particularly)

Yep, that's what I was getting at. Now whether it's the truth or just a convenient excuse is debatable, I always have to wonder when sports franchises cry poor.

Either way, it' still their fault. They didn't have to offer that contract.

Actually that was my first thought when I figured out what I thought Bugeater was meaning. If Glen Taylor and his management team spent too much on KG when he was there - who's shoulders would that fall on?

Not Kevin Garnett or his agent.

He's not tanking now. Boston just completed the first "Texas sweep" (winning consecutive road games at San Antonio, Houston and Dallas) since 2001. Given one of those wins snapped a 21 game Houston winning streak, one was against a surging San Antonio team (as they always do in the second half), and one was against a playoff bound Dallas team -- it might be one of the better 3 games stretches in recent regular season history.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

It was a nice display of ball by the Celts but actually the Spurs were kind of down prior to that game having lost 3 in a row. They probably will "surge" soon as they normally do though.

So much for "Classy Kevin Garnett" Omahamish.

He went to the gutter with his mouth yesterday against his former teams owner.
