Sounds like the Chiefs took the largest crew to Ryan's workout. Here is what Herm Edwards had to say:

"I thought he pressed a couple times, trying to throw the ball a little too hard," Edwards said. "That's generally what happens with quarterbacks, when you get the media there. It used to be 10-15 years ago, the workouts, five people were there. Now, depending who you are, what school you're at, and where people slate you being drafted, it becomes this. Which is kind of good, because it puts a lot of pressure on the kids, and the game everyone plays, there is going to be pressure on them."

"You look at that, and also understand that they're going to press some. He pressed some throws, but the thing this guy has is his ability to win. That's the thing you like about quarterbacks -- some guys win, some guys don't. You can look at all the stats, arm strength, you can look at all the different things, but at the end, can he win games? This guy has done that."

Seems like kind of a mixed review. Sounds almost like...

"Well, he looked pretty good, and we know what he did at BC, but we weren't thrilled with him"

yea, Herm's quote isn't quite a bold vote of confidence for the kid. But hey, it's KC and they need a solid QB.

Are they abandoning ship on Brody Croyle? I thought the Chiefs were still happy with him? If the Chiefs think they have their QB, they better not take Matt Ryan. Even if they're only 50/50, I still say you fill other needs in the first round given that Ryan has so many questions.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I think lip service from the Chiefs is Croyle is their guy, but I think their actions last season coupled with this entourage to BC indicates they are at the very least not convinced he is the long term solution. Personally, I've never been a big Croyle fan.

If I am the Chiefs, I take a more pressing first round need and go after one of the 2nd round QB's with all the depth.

Agreed, if they don't do something about that offensive line it won't matter if they draft the next Joe Montana. But then again, it may be a good idea to get as many QBs on the roster as possible seeing that Herm seems to have a knack for getting them killed.

More quotes from a scout on Matt Ryan's workout:

"He made 52 throws, and the whole thing was orchestrated. The NFL had very little involvement, so I would call it more of a performance that we were forced to sit and watch. It was obvious to a lot of people that he had practiced that workout quite a bit. It's much better for us to judge a quarterback when he's asked to improvise. Before I tell you how he looked, you should know that I've never left a scripted performance being all that impressed."

"He was in very good shape physically, and has a very good arm. He has a quick release even though he has a little bit of a circular motion. He was throwing in perfect conditions, but the balls wobbled quite a bit. He may have been pressing a little bit and trying to grip the ball too hard. Even with the wobbles, he was right on target."

"Honestly the Pro Days are just as important for the schools as they are to the kid. You have all the NFL people and media on your campus and it sort of turns into a production. If I had to evaluate him on that workout, it would be a tossup. Nothing constructive really came out of it. It was almost like he had the answers to the test."

"Sometimes in a private workout, you can put a ball in a bucket of cold water for 10 minutes and then have them throw the ball. You can have them try to throw it in the wind on a muddy field. We need to see how well a kid does when it's not perfect conditions."

LOL, you mean like when he has an entire d-line in his face as soon as the ball is snapped?

Hehe, yeah....no kidding.

"Say, Matt, would you lay down on the turf looking up? We want to try and envision you in a Chief's uniform."

Trade down.

Which, actually, if any bartering is done I could see it happening more toward that 3 - 6ish range.

So few? They have 11 picks this year.

And trading down is becoming increasingly more difficult due to the high cost of signing top 5 picks.

Man, they do have 11 picks...hadn't noticed that myself.

I know trading down is becoming more difficult. I just said that's what you try to do in that situation. In this era no team should count on trading down.

I hate the NBA for a lot of things, but not for their contract structures.

The bad thing is all those extra picks are in the later rounds, 3 of them are from the Dante Hall, Trent Green and Ryan Sims trades. Can't remember off the top of my head what the fourth one is from.

There's been some rumblings about slotting the rookie contracts in the NFL like the NBA does, but I don't see the player's union giving in on that one.
