Read something yesterday while at the dentist's office in Sporting News that talked about McFadden possibly going 7-9th in the draft.

Somehow I can't see his talent dropping that low...did he have personal issues while at Arkansas?

I think there are two possibilities...

I think sometimes writers just want to be able to say they called something that was an unpopular pick. Maybe that's the case here, because frankly...despite Oaklands depth and other needs, I don't see them passing on McFadden. Then again, I was wrong about them on Leinart (although, I was somewhat justified later by Al Davis admitting that was a missed opportunity).

I think the other thing is that there are genuinely people that feel McFadden is over-hyped. I almost lean toward this sentiment. I think a lot of people are seeing AP's performance last year and seeing this opportunity as the next AP. However, I think if he's over-hyped it's only slightly at best. I don't know how he isn't justifiably a top five pick from a pure talent perspective.

You just never know. Mario Williams has thus far IMO out performed Reggie Bush making a fool out of 99% of us that thought the Texans had made a foolhardy move.

Sometimes these speedsters aren't the real deal. I do agree with vranged that McFadden sure appears to be the real deal at least on the college level.

I was never on the Reggie Bush bandwagon. I got laughed at for implying I thought Williams could be the better pick and that I didn't fault the Texans for taking him.

However, the difference I see there is that McFadden is more of a true NFL prototype. Whereas, with Bush he felt like more of a Dave Meggett type...that's not the best analogy either, trying to remember who I used to compare him to. I think even Meggett was more of a power runner than even Bush is.

But, you're right...you never know. Everyone laughs and points at Ryan Leaf. But who was doing that prior to draft day? Not very many people. Same with many other big name busts...

I was a HUGE Ryan Leaf guy coming into the draft back then. His Rose Bowl performance put him heads above a guy named Manning IMO back then.

We all know how that one played out. Ryan did manage to outsmart some at least --- I saw a peice on him recently that talked about what he was doing now and he did manage to hang onto his money and is doing okay financially.

Better than most modern day athletes.

I never like Ryan Leaf going into the NFL. I can't put my finger on it, but I didn't have a good feeling. Although, I expected him to last as at least a backup type.

I never had a good feeling about Aaron Rodgers either. But looking at him last season he seemed pretty good against Dallas. It'll be interesting to see if he pans out now that he's "the man". Same with Alex Smith...and I get the same feeling with Matt Ryan. Although, I like him better than Smith and Rodgers.

It's looking like Jake Long is going to be the Dolphins pick. I agree. It's the safest one. Arguably, a good offensive line is the most impt. part of a football team.

I was watching NFL LIVE the other night, and interestingly, both Mel Kiper and Todd McShay said they had Matt Ryan rated higher than JaMarcus Russel last year. I would have never guessed that.

Their point was that Ryan carried Boston College with little talent around him. No skill position players for B.C. were among the best in their conference. Kiper/McShay think physically, he's got what it takes, and if you surround with him NFL-caliber talent, he'll be even better. I wasn't that high on Ryan (I'm sure he's devastated to read that), but I'm coming around the more I hear about him. I hope I'm not buying too much into the hype....

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I am biased, but frankly it's hard to argue against a guy who is NFL ready, is disciplined on field and off, had one penalty and allowed one sack in four year, and is athletic and intelligent.

Honestly, I could see about 4 guys vying for #1 overall, but Jake Long is maybe the hardest to pass up on film and on paper.

I don't see Ryan being as good as Palmer or P. Manning.

Actually, I do like him better than Russell from a pure Qb perspective, but assuming Russell can scramble well I think he will actually end up being better than Ryan.

I haven't like Ryan in the past and I am am not big on him now.

I just don't see it...I think he'll end up being about like an Eli, Big Ben or such.

In fact, look at this years QB's...I am starting to think Dennis Dixon might be the guy I like most in terms of value and where you can draft him.

Given the tremendous pedigree of Oregon QBs (Joey Harrington, Akili Smith), I see why you think that. J/K

I'm just looking forward to Zac Taylor's HOF induction speech 22 years from now.

Putting your homerism aside, do you think Chad Henne will succeed in the NFL? I don't, at all. Unlike Matt Ryan, he was surrounded by great talent at the skills positions -- and he still only was very good; not great.

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I don't know that I see Henne lasting long. I think he's about as good as Griese in NFL terms....maybe.

As far as Oregon QB's lol...true, but then again, I was not big on either of those two QB's coming out of college, although admittedly I thought Harrington wouldn't be AS bad.
