Is Bill Callahan building a team for himself or is he building it for somebody who can actually get the players to the next level (as, say, Ron Zook did for Urban Meyer)? This is the year where there can be no excuses, no blaming it on the failures, perceived or otherwise, of Solich. It is the start of put up or shut up time for Callahan. |

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin |

Well, he put up last year, quite frankly. He's put up every year and made progress on what he has had. However, I am sure that won't be enough for you. If he gets the Huskers back to glory will you jump back on the Husker bandwagon? |

Everyone said year four was the true test. This is it. Unfortunately, this season is the toughest schedule Nebraska's had recently, so while a 9-3 season might be objectively a success, it might not be enough for those that have unrealistic expectations, or lack patience -- which I've noticed is a lot of Husker Nation.
Callahan's got his players in his system. The next two years must demonstrate that that will translate into success. How to define "success" is the question a lot of people will disagree on. |

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

I think there has been progress made, absolutely. This is the first year where, imo, Callahan has enough of his players in the system that the "He's Stuck With Solich Recruits" excuse (used by some of his defenders) is gone. I believe the Huskers will improve, but the schedule is difficult enough that the record wont reflect it as much as it would otherwise. Next year is a bigger year, in that the ballyhooed Class of '05 will all be seniors or juniors, the schedule isn't as difficult and the players should know the system. |
