Ok, I am not a Drake fan, but admittedly somewhat of a bandwagon fan for them being relatively close and have occasionally attended games for years. The old Drake, the Drake many of you used to know, was simply the doormat of the MVC. The lined up losing seasons one after another for some time. The the obtained the once cross state Iowa coach, Dr. Tom. Dr. Tom was able to take the program to the next level...not only recruiting kids that could play, but kids that were smart. Kids that could live up to the Drake academic standard. Kids that HAD to do well from their first semester with no grace periods like many public universities offer. I've become a Drake fan not just because they're doing well now. I've always kind of followed them and they'll never be my "real" team, but more of a local favorite. However, the reason they've garnered my respect, along with other MVC schools, is that they are doing it legally, within recruiting rules AND with quality, by not excluding academics, but rather emphasizing them. That being said, I won't plagiarize an article that is focused more on the here and now that underscores Drakes start guard Adam Emmenecker a walk-on that has not one, but FOUR majors to his name. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=326124 |

I recall the days of Lewis Lloyd and his duals with Creighton's George Morrow....somebody say "wow, Omahan is old."
It really is special to see a program like Drake have a season like this one. Somehow I really think the jury is still out on them. I don't mean about success in the tourney but more along the lines of sustaining this success for a couple of years or more.
Fluke season or the start of something special begs to be answered for Drake. Very nice to see them sparking interest in Des Moines though. :-) |

| Well, the success I am talking about has already been proven from the time Dr. Tom stepped in...no question that it remains to be seen what his son can do in the upcoming years. But they are definitely not the doormat team they once were. |

| Screw Drake. One lucky season sure as hell doesn't amount to nothing. Back into the storm cellar next year. |

So you agree with the sentiment layed out by Midge? I agree, it was quite an accomplishment. |

| It appears Drake could receive a fairly high seed in the tournament, around a 4 seed according to some bracketologists. Could help the Bulldogs go a little deeper in the tournament than the typical Mo Valley Champion's trend of one and out. |
