So does that mean Ken Norton, Jr. is the greatest defensive player of all time in the NFL.

Not IMO. It's not just the winning but the whole scope of things. Joe was the Tommie Frazier or Magic Johnson of Pro-Football. He had that knack to find a way to get it done.

And I'm not saying the guy lacked talent, hell, he played at Notre Dame and the 49ers and we all know you don't play in those places without being top level talented.

I am talking about the intangibles. Joe could read defenses like no other. Joe created the shuffle pass for intensive purposes. You just knew when he was behind center, his team had a 99% chance of winning.

Elway & Favre both faltered big times early on with talented teams. And I totally disagree about Marino, he had a helluva team surrounding him with Duper and Clayton that got maulled by Montana and the 49ers in the SB.

The total package, short screens, deceiving mis-direction and yes, the long ball! No one ever played the game like Montana and never will.

Don't get me wrong...I'm a huge Elway & Favre fan, I just rate Montana higher. Because he always won.

When I rank QB's overall I rank them based on all categories...that's why I rate Brady #1, overall. He has mechanics, discipline, leadership, intelligence, play-making ability, late game drive ability, championship rings....he simply seems the most well-rounded of the top QB's and has done so with some absolutely marginal WR talent on the passing stats for most of his career.

Not to mention he's a Michigan boy. What a f#@king homer.

I would have to seriously give some thought to the list of greatest QB's ever, and although Brett Favre makes the list, I don't think he tops the list.....IMO.

Caught part of Rome's show the other day...speculation on whether Favre might have been pushed out or if he quit due to the Moss thing. I never did get Rome's final position as he talked through it...

At any rate, I disagree with the sentiment that either is true based on what I've read and especially after listening to the Mortensen voice mail ESPN has online. I think Favre flat out decided this is the time to go...

I've heard a lot of speculation that he will be back......but after the press conference today, I don't see that happening. He's done.

Yeah, I think that's just a bunch of hype to be expected with the situation...the Rome crowd seemed to be the most on that bandwagon for whatever reason.

I am convinced he is done for good too...

Just a quick note...

Sounds like NFL Network will be replaying the MNF game of GB vs. Oak the week Favre's dad passed away tonight at 8 EST (I believe that is right time).

Just so they don't show either playoff game with Seattle (the recent beatdown or the Matt Hasselbeck "We want the ball and we're gonna score" game), I guess I'm OK with it.

Well, I am a Stealers fan (as FloJoe would put it) and I don't really care too much either, but that was one of the best games in NFL history, imo.

I'd agree that it was "one of the best performances" in NFL history.....not sure about best game. I'll have to watch and let you know tomorrow.

It's a blowout, but it's still one of the best games in NFL history. So, if you a strict close game person you won't like it. I am talking about the story line, performance and sheer magic of the game. One of the best ever.

I don't ascribe to the "close game equates to great game" mentality by default. I've seen about as many bad close games as I have good ones.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to re-see the game last night. Had to watch Mr. Magorium's Toy Emporium or something like that with the kids. Not a bad movie for a kids show.

Really enjoyed watching the retirement announcement and the emotion associated with it the first couple of times.

By the third, fourth, fifth and now the umpteenth time....it's like "enough already!"

Let him fly away to Mississippi quietly.

one could argue that if favre had the defenses montana had he'd have just as many rings. one could argue farve made more mistakes and tried to force more passes but if you've got a great defense you don't have to take as much risk to catch up or stay in a game.

dwight, refuting reality one post at a time.
