I bet a lot of teams are pissed off at them for overpaying for an average player.

If I were asked to name the Top 20 Defensive Linemen in the NFL, I don't think Tommy Kelly would make the list. I barely have heard of the guy. This is a ridiculous contract. It makes me wonder what the hell they're doing in Oakland. Have the Raiders got to the point -- since they're such a joke -- that they have to overpay for players (ala the KC Royals-type teams) in order to get them to play there?

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

I don't know, but the more time goes by the more my theory about them being far better of with Al Davis dead seems to hold true.

He's not a top 20 lineman. That's for sure. He's good, but not as good as his contract.

He did play in 7 games last year, I think.

He's coming off a torn ACL too??????? Wow!! What the hell are they thinking?

Al Davis lost it years ago. Look for his retirement via death in the next 10-20 years. Until then expect more absurd & ridiculous decisions compliments of an aging icon.

Great blog article underscoring the Raiders' idiocy...

And, when you think it can't get worse...

Jevon Walker, 6 year $55M with $27M in the first 3 years....still waiting on the guaranteed numbers...I am guessing probably $20M as dumb as they've been.

I sort of wonder if the Raider organization is in survival mode right now. They don't want to lose players, cause no one outside the organization wants to play for the owner, so they are offering these contracts in an effort to keep current players.

I'd call it suicide mode, personally.

Roger Goodell needs to step in and take over that team for the betterement of the team and the NFL. Either that, or somebody needs to strap Al Davis in a wheelchair, push him to the center of the Golden Gate Bridge and dump him over the side.

Ok, maybe "survival" was a poor choice of words......but there is no other reason for what they are doing other than they are skeptical about signing any quality new players, and they don't want to lose the mediocre ones they already have, so they're making sure they keep what they got.

Well, actually I wasn't disagreeing with you...I think in their minds they would see it as that way.

Where I might disagree, or at least what doesn't sit right, is that concept seems to me like it'd be foreign to Al Davis. You're talking about the guy who effectively benched Marcus Allen to let him rot over a disagreement.

Whatever it is...it's piss poor salary cap management and piss poor team management. I mean, come on, now EVERY Raider is going to expect big contracts without performing.

They've spent more money on non-Pro Bowl caliber players than I could of ever deemed imaginable.

In other Raiders new, Jamarcus Russell is reportedly nearing 300 lbs.

He'll need to be since he'll effectively be his own o-line.

I don't know if I'd question that deal much. Hall is one of the better CBs in the league. You'd be hard pressed to get that type of value anywhere in the draft, let alone the second round.
