I think people know I'm an unabashed fan of Matt and the Big Show, so I hope this comment is taken in that context.

I thought the football fix was a great idea when I heard about it, but I have to admit, guys, it's leaving me wanting. The guys that have been on aren't really giving me much info on the upcoming season.

I love reliving the good ole days as much as the next guy, but I want 2007 season info now! And VJ is as close to the program as I am now. Same with Jerry Murtaugh, Clester Johnson and many of the old retreads that are being trotted out for this segment.

I hate to say it, but an hour with Murtaugh, Vershan and others is making me turn the station, and I never thought I'd do that with Matt on the air.

Anybody have any good ideas to "fix" the fix?

I haven't listened to Matt since 2006, but I can't imagine why a Husker fan would be too impressed with Matt when he's so quick to throw them in front of the bus.

Has he actually developed some objectivity toward them? I am not a Husker fan and I couldn't barely stand to listen to him talk about them.

Dave,

Maybe if you call into Matt's show and tell him how you really feel, he will listen intensely and see you point of view and allow you to speak freely.

Naaaaa, just pulling your chain. Just enjoy the show for what its worth.

Logan, I am maybe losing respect for you, you used to be a fan? Here all this time I thought you were just someone in the area that has always been anti-Husker in a Husker world. Now I find out you were a fan while things were good, but when the glory days, and fair weather, went so did you...

I think 590 is doing a great job with this. It is hard to do a daily program about Nebraska Football when Pinnacle has the rights to all of the current players and coaches.

Cornhuskers the winningest college football program of the last 50 years, both by winning percentage and number of wins.

For the record, technically Pinnacle was bought out, but the point remains true...

Then again, it's also hard to do Nebraska coverage when the host isn't really vested in them either. Not that you have to be a homer to do a good job.

i've explained this before but will do it again. i grew up near st. joe, missouri out of the nebraska media markets. i became a fan at a young age just watching them on tv much to the chagrin of my father. i moved to rock port at the age of 12 figuring being closer to nebraska there would be more fans. wrong, people in that area had put up with the "attitude" of husker fans for years and had grown to dislike them. after living in lincoln for a few years i came to understand this firsthand. after hearing statements such as "you're not a native nebraskan why are you a fan using our tickets." then after hearing many others i came to realize that the "greatest, most sportsmen like college football fans in the world" were for the most part azz holes. then when pederson showed what he was all about and then hired callahan i'd decided i'd had enough and easily turned my back on what was once my favorite team.

i've always been a college football fan and have liked several teams. i have always liked notre dame for cultural reasons and the fact that one of my dad's childhood friends ended up being one of dan devine's assistants played a big role in becoming a fan of the irish. i could go into more but that pretty much sums it up.

That's just my point, though. Sure, it requires a little creativity, but that's why the good folks at Journal are paying Matt the big bucks, right? I will say, I enjoyed Steve Ryan during the fix yesterday. Always great insight into this current Husker team.

I was mainly just giving you crap, but I hadn't read that before...I am not a staunch fan definition nazi like Perrault, so to each their own. Imo, you could argue that one is less of a fanatic for being passionate about a team that is local, regional or whatever reasoning Matt and fellow purists ascribe to defining a 'true fan'.

But, it doesn't mean I probably won't crack a joke or two about it.

I am a big Jim Rome fan, and listen practically every day. However, over lunch today, there was a commercial, and I flipped to Colin Cowherd who was having an interesting discussion regarding college football teams that have the most national appeal. The argument was that there are only 4 programs that matter from coast to coast, from north to south, and they are: USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan.

He then said there are only 3 other schools on the bubble. These schools don't quite have the national appeal, but they are the closest. They matter to demographics that really have no ties to the school, and they are: Oklahoma, Miami and NEBRASKA!!!!

All other programs are regional or local. Nobody in New England cares about Georgia or Alabama. Nobody in Oregon cares about Texas or LSU. But those 7 schools (mostly the first 4) cross all geographical boundaries.

Thoughts?

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up!

When you think about going back for the last 50 plus years, ND, Mich, USC, and Ohio St have always been among the more consistent faces of college football.

I agree, however Oklahoma starting in the 50's became a big time player.

Well, hey, at least you were able to stumble on being wrong on the Celtics thread so we could disagree on SOMETHING!

notice the rivalry connection with most of these schools. ND plays usc and michigan annually. osu and michigan play annually. ou and the skers used to play annually and i think the loss of that annual rivalry has hurt nu's national exposure. ou still has the texas game to help them but not as many people seem to care about nu playing colorado. as for miami i would have to say they probably have more of an urban appeal than most of the other teams.

I don't know...I've lived a number of places in the US and Miami I see most frequently out of those three.

I don't see a huge OU or Nebraska following outside of the midwest/central south.

I would tend to think Florida would rank ahead of those two teams in terms of national recognition in the fan pool.

Although, anywhere I've lived outside a two state radius of Nebraska...I can't think of seeing many Nebraska supporters.

Then again, I've never done a survey on it...that's just personal experience.

Let me guess. He got this information from collegefootballnews.com?

Texas? Florida State? Florida? Ball State?
