A Nebraska State Patrol trooper arrested Nebraska tight end Hunter Teafatiller, 20, on suspicion of driving under the influence early Saturday.

State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said he’d been driving without his headlights near Third and Adams streets at 1:24 a.m.

The trooper arrested Teafatiller, who turns 21 on Oct. 30, on suspicion of DUI, minor in possession of alcohol, no insurance and no registration. He bonded out an hour later.
Teafatiller’s blood alcohol level allegedly tested .097, Collins said. The legal limit for those over 21 is .08.

Nebraska coach Bill Callahan said Monday he was aware of Teafatiller's arrest but declined further comment.

On May 26, Lincoln police ticketed him on suspicion of DUI, negligent driving, improper registration and MIP after an accident in which he hit a culvert near 101 Charleston, causing $5,000 damage to his SUV. According to the accident report, his blood alcohol level was .123.

Teafatiller, a junior from Kingsburg, Calif., was never prosecuted in that case. In the new case, he is set to go to court Sept. 12.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida running back Brandon James pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge Monday, was placed on six months' probation and received community service.
James, a sophomore from St. Augustine, was ordered to perform 10 hours of community service and pay $226 in court costs. He also could pay an additional $100 in lieu of the 10 hours.
If he does not pay the court costs, he must do another 23 hours of community service.
Any use, possession or purchase of illegal drugs during the six-month period would constitute a probation violation and prompt the court to punish him further for the initial charge.
James and former Florida basketball player Brandon Powell, who has since left the program, were arrested in early June after trying to buy marijuana from an informant. They were charged with possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana.
Coach Urban Meyer suspended James from the Sept. 1 season opener against Western Kentucky.
The 5-foot-6 James averaged 11 yards a punt return and 18.2 yards on kickoffs as a freshman last season. He set a school record with 155 yards on six punt returns against Western Carolina, including a 77-yarder for a touchdown.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin running back charged with battery and disorderly conduct was reinstated to the team Monday just before its first practice of the season.
Sophomore Lance Smith released a statement through the university apologizing for his actions during a July 14 dispute in which he allegedly pushed his girlfriend.
I first want to apologize to my girlfriend, my coaches, my teammates, our fans and the university community," Smith said. "My actions did not measure up to the standards we have here at Wisconsin."
Smith said he would receive counseling and perform community service work at the direction of Coach Bret Bielema. He pledged "to conduct myself in a manner that I can be proud of."
Smith, 19, was the team's second-leading rusher with 345 yards and five touchdowns last season on 95 carries.
The Warren, Ohio native was suspended last month after being arrested by Madison police. Athletics Director Barry Alvarez announced he was lifting Smith's suspension just an hour before Monday's practice.
Smith has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges that he pushed down his girlfriend during a dispute over a cab fare, refused to let her leave his apartment and took her money and shoes.
If convicted, Smith faces up to nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine on the battery charge and up to a 90 days in prison and $1,000 fine on the disorderly conduct charge

I can go on and on. THIS IS NOT JUST A PROBLEM IN NEBRASKA!

yes, we all know it is prevalent in not just nebraska, not just football, but in college athletics as a whole. my previous comment was made due to the fact that the last 2 players to get into trouble in lincoln were alcohol related.

Coach Calliecan't: Hunter, your going to have to pay for this. Stevie P wants you to do some community service.

Hunter: I understand coach.

Coach Calliecan't: I've decided that I'm going to have you pick up all the towels in the locker room after the first game.

Hunter: Awww, come on coach. Why are you being so tough on me?

And then one of the baseball players will attempt to sell the beer bongs for extra cash.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin
