| Well Howie's boy Chris is apparently impressing at the combine. Many have him as the probable first pick at this juncture, and I'm not sure Miami can pass up a guy like that. |

Yeah, he impressed. I've watched a lot of the combine footage on NFL Network and it kind of cool to see.
I think overall the talent at the top is more equal than people think. In my mind there is no clear cut #1. If I had to pick I still might lean toward McFadden, but honestly....McFadden, C. Long, Dorsey, J. Long...all good picks.
I think the hands down most overrated "top" pick is Matt Ryan. I think the 4 or 5 QB's are all about the same....Ryan, Brohm, Henne, Flacco and Woodson.
Personally, if I am looking QB in the draft...I would let anyone jump on the first rounders and wait until 2nd / 3rd round to get one.
Although, they are still talking like Dallas maybe wanting #1 McFadden aren't they? I don't know if Tuna will pass or not. |

| Miami definitely needs a QB, but how can you sock $30MM guaranteed on a prayer with Ryan. Dorsey's knee is questionable; they have Brown at RB....although McFadden with a 1 - 2 punch couldn't be bad, but Chris Long appears to be the real deal. I don't know how you lose with THAT pick, cause the guy is going to be successful in the NFL |

If I am Miami and I can't trade down I take one of the Long's.
No way I'd invest $30M in Matt Ryan...
McFadden isn't really a need for them as attractive as he is...I think a lot of people have visions on AP dancing in their head. I couldn't fault them for taking McFadden, but I think the more sensible pick is either of the Longs'. |

| As far as QB's, Billy Volek in SD is a free agent. We really don't know how good he is, but he sure played well against the Patriots when Rivers went down. Maybe Tuna makes a play for him and gets a QB later in the draft. Even if he drafts a QB, the guy isn't going to be ready to play this years anyway. |

| Yeah, I was thinking Volek might be a good option for Chicago to pursue...although, he'd fit in Miami. At least give them an option for a starter in addition to being a reliable backup. Then they could draft 2nd or 3rd round QB too to groom. |

| I like Volek in Chicago as well, or maybe a Byron Leftwich (although I'm not sure he fits as well there)........but I really don't know what Chicago's strategy is at QB. They re-signed Orton and Grossman, and I hear they plan to release Griese, so we'll see. |

I would expect them to release Griese and either draft a guy or get a FA. And, I don't see them getting a FA, personally.
The only FA's I'd pursue as Chicago would be like Volek and maybe Quinn Gray.

| Collins played well for Washington last year in relief, and Zorn has made it perfectly clear that he will not be the starter, but does want to sign him as their backup. Again, a roster of 3 back-up caliber QB's is not what Chicago needs, but Collins and Volek have actually proven their worth. I also like Derek Anderson, but it appears Cleavland is going to lock him up. |

Anderson is a restricted FA, so yeah...there is no way he goes anywhere.
The main reason I mention Collins is because he's a guy that can mentor and start. Right now the QB coaching is apparently non-existent in Chicago. Volek I think is good enough to be a #1 in Chicago.
Gray, I think has potential...bear in mind (haha) that Chicago isn't going to have a true #1 this year either way most likely, so I am saying if they are going to gamble on a draft pick they could as easily gamble on Gray and get someone that has the learning curve out of the way.
2008 is a rebuilding year anyway... |

Well, in fairness, if you're going to commit to Wrex Grossform for one more season you might as well commit to Orton as well.
I am not sure what their thinking is...do they think they are in rebuilding mode anyway, so just stick with QB's that know the system and can get them through another season or are they in denial and think they are still roughly the same team that got them to the SB.
I am afraid it's the latter of the two. |

I'm not sure how they could think they are. They will lose Briggs on defense and Berrian on offense, so there are two quality players that will be gone, and not easily replaced. How can you let a guy like Berrian go while signing Grossman? I can't figure out what Angelo is doing in Chicago. Maybe I'll be surprised and they'll draft well and get some quality guys through free agency, but it's beyond me what is going on in Chicago.
As for Anderson, all would take is money. Cleavland can't afford huge contracts on two QB's, so if someone would offer more for his services.....who knows. |

To answer your first comment...because the are delusional. I don't know what they are doing either, but it seems to me just reading comments from them that they feel they are roughly still close to that caliber.
As for Anderson, it'll take more than money because he is restricted. Another team is going to want to have to invest a second round pick and pretty good cash...and this is for a guy who frankly is still unproven despite having a very good season.
Although it sounds like they are close to a 3-year deal.
Cleveland is in excellent condition on salary cap, so they can afford to do this right now. It's not all that different from investing $60M (with a lot in guaranteed) in a #1 overall, but they are in a better position because they are split between two QB's. |

Just as comparison...
Russell signed a 6-year, 61M (32M guaranteed)
Quinn signed a 5-year, 20.2M (7.75M guaranteed)
Let's say Anderson signs a 3 year, 18M (11M guaranteed)
That's still darn cheap for two quality prospects versus what a #1 overall will demand. |

As some of you may already know the NFL combine isn't just a test of physical ability. The Wonderlic is a 12 minute, 50 question exam meant to judge their aptitude for adapting to certain situations. Similar to other standardized tests, the Wonderlic uses a multiple choice format for its questions with increasing difficulty. It's designed so that most players won't have time to complete it.
Who is the only football player to record a confirmed perfect score on the wonderlic test?
And what was Dion Sanders record time in the 40 yard dash?

| I don't know what his best confirmed time is...there are legends of him and Bo Jackson running it in the 4.17ish range, but I think his best confirmed time is like 4.28 at a combine not sure what Bo's best confirmed is. |

If we are talking about the combine, I don't think Deon has that record. A couple of years back, I recall Fabian Washington, former Husker, running a 4.26 or something like that.
As for the Wonderlic, it was Vince Young.
Or do I have that wrong.................maybe it was some egg head from Harvard. |
