Sorry NU and CU there are college basketball games of great importance and then there is Duke and North Carolina. For followers or those betting on the great games of basketball, these two schools are synonymous with great coaching, tremendous players and wonderful theatre. The next chapter of their storied rivalry is written tonight in Chapel Hill, with the number two and three ranked teams going at it again,(Sixth time that both are ranked in the top 5 at tip). To make it even better tonight marks the return of Dick Vitale on ESPN love him or not he is Duke VS North Carolina! |

Cornhuskers the winningest college football program of the last 50 years, both by winning percentage and number of wins.

Anticipating that one and eagerly looking forward to ole' blabber mouth and his "one liners."
Amazing how consistent those two schools have been over the years in basketball isn't it? |

Come on, Tim. Everyone knows that the Creighton/Northern Iowa rivalry is leaps and bounds above Duke/Carolina.
It's too bad the Heels aren't 100%. Even though they'll be missing one of their stars, I'm taking the Heels (because I can't stand Duke). |

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

Wolverines. The only other team I ever really support is North Carolina, but that's more because I hate Duke. I don't consider myself a UNC fan. I suppose kind of Drake too because they are local, but again not a fan. |

Michigan will re-incarnate the Fab 5 at some point in time. All it takes is a little under the table cash. |

Three on three: NC - Jordan, Worthy and Carter. Duke - Laettner, Ferry and Snyder.
Okay, I didn't toss in the right Duke guys. Quinn Snyder was a good player though. |

Here is my fondest memory of the Fab 5: January 31, 1993 -- Iowa 88, Michigan 80 In the first home game following the death of Iowa player Chris Street, the Hawkeyes scored an 88-80 win over the "Fab Five" of Michigan. The victory took place in front of one of the loudest crowds ever in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and a national television audience as the game was telecast by CBS. The 11-ranked Hawkeyes played inspired basketball throughout the contest, as the Street family watched from the front row. Trailing 75-73 at the four minute mark, Iowa closed the game with a 15-5 scoring run against the fifth-ranked Wolverines, who would later advance to the championship game in the NCAA Tournament. When the contest ended, the Hawkeyes presented the game ball to the Street family. |

Posted By egami on 02/06/2008 6:48 PM I was at that game. At the time were you aware of it being the first game since Chris Street had died? It had to be emotionally draining for the home crowd as much as they wanted that win for the Street family. I saw the game on television and will never forget it but I always thought it had to be one of those games you really needed to be at in person to understand just how emotional it really was. |

Yes, I knew Chris. Not closely, but through playing ball at camps and some mutual friends. We had met probably a dozen times and played against each other and with each other...hell of nice guy. I remember to this day hearing that he had died. Honestly, I think the negativity of the tragedy had the most positive effect on the home crowd. I have been to probably...I don't know, 40 or 50 Hawkeye games (I don't count..a lot though having lived in Cedar Rapids for a while), and I have yet to be at a game that compared to that one in terms of emotion and electricity. Might be the only time I really didn't care to see my team get beat. |

I went to the Ohio State game Saturday night and actually was impressed with how loud the crowd was. I have always felt Carver was one of the best venues in the country for watching a game, not a bad seat in the house. |

| Carver is a great arena and atmosphere. I wish we lived closer again...although, I don't mind missing the heart of the Alford era so much. |

Not really close for me either, I can make it from my home to Coralville in 3 1/2 hours and a little luck. Due to long drive I only attempt to make it to weekend games. |

Was not aware of who Chris Street was and his story of life and death. Sounds like he was quite a kid with a promising future.
Does IU do anything annually or otherwise to remember him? And how did he die? |
