I see Pat Forde is lambasting him in his column: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=3230826&sportCat=ncb Certainly an interesting perspective. I don't always agree with Knight, but I don't hate the guy. A solid X's and O's coach who had quite a run. Certainly entertaining... |

Never was the blanket statement, "There are two sides" more pertinent than assessing Bob Knight and his antics. Coach Knight embodied all that is good in college basketball. No recruiting violations, high graduation rates, etc. But! The tantrums and the chair flinging and the usage of expletives became his downfall almost equalling his success on the court. His accomplishments on the court as a coach are legendary and speak for themselves. His constant yelling, screaming and general tendency to create havoc in my opinion diminished who he is as a man. So in my book, great coach, solid teacher, poor role model and miserable to be around on a daily basis. I oft wondered how recruits could fathom being around those tirades 24/7. I guess they had their reasons. |

I played for a coach like this that was very similar in style and ethics in high school. I think what kids are drawn to is the passion and the strategic discipline. Personally, with our coach, I liked knowing without a doubt that the best kids played. Didn't matter what you did before. Didn't matter what family you came from. Hard work, sacrifice and results got you play time. It was also nice knowing that the rules were the same for every kid.
Just my perspective...and, it wasn't coach Knight, just a very similar individual...probably a bit more stable, but not much. |

Interesting experience I would imagine. I never played for a strict disciplinarian like Knight. I played for some guys that would cheat to win, but not all the "military like" discipline. I agree that a player could be attracted to knowing fairness would be accross the board playing for a tyrant like Knight. I just don't think it would've been for me. |

Great coach; bad, bad person.
A textbook bully. I'll never forget the presser he held to tell his side of the story after Indiana broke him off. By his side was his wife, displaying classic characteristics of shell shock/battered wife syndrome.
Using his year old grandson as a human shield at a press conference last month wasn't cute or clever, it was downright disturbing. |

No doubt -- especially since Knight was cursing. I hope on The General's next birthday, his young grandson says "Happy Fcking Birthday, Grandpa!!!" I wasn't surprised to hear that Knight and Bill Belichick are good friends. Are there two bigger a-holes in sports, or anywhere for that matter? |

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

I got a sick thought about Knight almost instantaneously after I saw on SportsCenter that he had stepped down.
Remember recently the footage of him arguing with the guy while hunting. (The guy wanted him off his land and was filming the whole thing) I guess my image of Knight is one of this grumply old, resentful man that would now take revenge upon this guy because he has nothing to lose. Sick thought I know but somehow it would'nt surprise me a bit if news came out that the old coot went and harrassed the poor guy. |

Bob Knight was set up during the hunting episode, how many farmers happen to be driving around with a video camera in hand just in case Bob Knight just happens to be around? |

Here is my fondest memory of actually watching Coach Knight in person as this was my 2nd visit to Carver Hawkeye Arena: January 22, 1987 -- No. 1 Iowa 101, No. 3 Indiana 88 Top-ranked Iowa's 101-88 win over third-ranked Indiana marked the first time the Hoosiers allowed over 100 points in 466 games under Coach Bob Knight. The win was Iowa's third straight over a team ranked among the top 10 in the nation as Indiana's 11-game winning streak came to an end. Six Iowa players scored 13 or more points, as Kevin Gamble and Jeff Moe each scored 17 to lead the way. Ed Horton added 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Hawkeyes held a dominating 46-19 advantage on the boards. Indiana was led by Daryl Thomas with 22 points. Steve Alford, who would later become Iowa's head coach, added 21. While Iowa advanced to the Elite Eight in the 1987 NCAA Tournament, the Hoosiers ended the season as the national champions. |

I've been to the Old Fieldhouse to watch a game prior to the move to Carver but was not yet old enough to drive so if you run the math I'm not in my 20's or 30's anymore. |

I don't think Knight was set up in that taping deal. I think the farmer knew who he was dealing with. (And stated that they had had encounters in the past) He knew that his only recourse in getting Bob Knight to stop firing a rifle on his or near his property was to put him to the fire. And in that case, that fire was to put him in a position where he couldn't just cuss the guy out and continue hunting.
What possibly could this guy stand to benefit from filming Knight? It got him to leave and stop hunting. And exposed him for the bully he is. |

| My understanding of that incident was that Knight had been doing that for some time so the farmer knew he was going to find him when he went out there. |

Meaning?
That the farmer was wrong or Knight was wrong? |

| Meaning it wasn't necessarily a "set up" as alleged above. |

| Bob Knight had every right to tresspass on that guy's land and shoot his deer and pheasants. Don't you know who he is? He's Bobby "frick'in" Knight |
