From Matt's blog... "Pats had a chance to make history....and they blew it when Samuel dropped the interception in the 4th quarter." A game never comes down to a single play. Sure, a single play can significantly alter a game, but at the end of the day is always a culmination of events...the Pats didn't choke on one play, they choked ALL game. Let us count thy ways... First off, and most surprising to me, is the decision to not significantly alter their game plan. Moss deep wasn't happening. Maroney wasn't effective running. Yet, they kept going back to the well "hoping" on these two things. Next, going for it on 4th down. I rarely criticize Belichick for this, but to me this was a bad call. It was what? 4th and 13? Ok, so I can maybe rationalize not trusting the kicker, maybe. But for God's sake...PIN THEM INSIDE THE 20 THEN. It was apparent at this point that a close game was possible. Game plan. I really expected an alteration in the game plan after half, but nope...Belichick stuck with the same broken record plan. Keep trying to go to the well on Moss deep and the Maroney run. Rather than going to a more steady diet of what WAS working which seemed to be Welker short, dumping to Faulk, Moss across the middle or short outs with a few Stallworth looks. Would a Samuel interception of sealed the deal? Most likely, but then again...this Patriots team failed in many ways yesterday. Untimely penalties, unwillingness or inability to alter the game plan, losing their composure at times and play calling. And, this isn't to take anything away from the Giants...this isn't a game where "well, the Patriots lost the game, the Giants didn't win the game". The Giants front defensive four dominated. The secondary played effectively. On offense they played well and overcame some early mistakes that could of cost them. But, no...it wasn't a play or two. The Patriots failed on many levels. And the Giants took a page from the Patriots book and made the best of those opportunities given. |

Had Samuel caught that ball, the likelihood of him coming down with it "in bounds" is very very questionable. |

That cannot be considered a "drop", either. The ball was very high. Samuel barely got his fingertips on it. A "drop" is a catch you should make everytime. That definitely wasn't in that category. Samuel doesn't deserve that label. If you're that hellbent on finding an individual to lay the loss on, how about the fumbled exchange that bounced right into the Pats lineman's arms, but the ball was wrestled away from him? He should have had that everytime.
But, again, I don't think it was anyone's fault. The Giants deserve all the credit in the world.
So, egami -- 10 in a row on the road didn't impress you. You said Eli would fail. Can I get one "I was wrong" from you"? Is it possible?

After acknowledging that he was desperate, Dwight said "people will resort to saying things they know aren't true when they are desperate." That about sums it up! |

| Yeah, I kind of thought he would, but now that you mention it I can't say there isn't some validity to that. It'll be interesting to watch that when I see it re-run. |

Bill Belichick "They made some plays there at the end and we didn’t. It’s disappointing.” “I don’t rank them. It’s disappointing.”
Tom Brady “I probably need some time to reflect on the game and some time to reflect on the season. It is extremely disappointing.
Teddy Bruschi “Very disappointing, to come this far and lose the biggest game of the year is disappointing.
If you saw the introductions at the beginning of the game the Patriots need to change their theme to.."WE ARE.........WE ARE...........WE ARE......................................DISAPPOINTED." |
