New Stadium Location Considered In Council Bluffs
01-11-2008 5:21 AM

(Omaha, NE) -- The committee looking into ways to keep the College World Series in the metro area met again yesterday morning. The Stadium Oversight Committee wouldn't comment on what was discussed, but with a proposal for the NCAA needed in just over three months, some are suggesting that a new ball park could be built in Council Bluffs. Mayor Tom Hanafan says he would be open to the possibility, if plans to keep the series in Omaha bog down. Omaha's decision on the matter is due by the end of April. At that point, NCAA officials could begin negotiating with other cities.

One thing for sure sports fans, the city leaders in CB would have no problem getting the funding. Hopefully for Nebraskans if they build it the outfield faces Omaha so that at least Omaha could be seen on the long fly ball camera shots!

It's my fault," said first-year Nebraska coach Bo Pelini. "Damn right, yes, I'm embarrassed. I apologized to the team. I apologize to the state of Nebraska. I apologize to everyone associated with Nebraska football.
"It's my responsibility. I was hired to do a job and I didn't do the job, I'm just not a very good coach.

Would that be a bad thing? Omaha would still benefit from a significant portion of the revenues without burdening the costs of a new facility.

Actually the discussion regarding this has been taking place for the last few weeks maybe longer. From my perspective it actually makes some sense, it still gives the new stadium a downtown or very near downtown location, also what I've been told it would be located very close to the new pedestrian bridge across the missouri. The land is available and the interstate access is favorable to what is projected to be required. Some friends of mine that belong to Downtown Omaha Inc., actually seem to be intrigued by the idea. I'm sure money would need to be supplied from both sides of the river but this could be a very win, win situation for all involved.

I certainly hope this proposal is fully explored.

i say screw the college world series. if rosenblatt and the antedeluvian zoo area are not good enough they can take their metal bats and balls and head for a new town. putting the CWS in the downtown area or council bluffs sounds idiotic. you can say i am anti-progress or that i am stuck in an old mode of thinking and you are 99% correct. i don't like creighton basketball (although i go to some games), i don't give a hoot about the NOdO area, i don't own a cell phone or a blackberry. i do, however, know a Black guy named barry and he is pretty cool for what that is worth. is there a movement to justify the silly pedestrian bridge linking omaha to council bluffs at hand? "let's put a baseball stadium there so the bridge has a purpose." good thinking. council bluffs will look sweet on television. especially if you could catch a long distance shot of muzzle fire coming off a gun from north omaha in the distance. i do know one thing for sure.......putting the words creighton, hack and attorney together for a screen name is redundant. so, in my summation, i just want to point out how vital it is for omaha to keep the college world series here in town, no matter at what cost. buy the big O!

Ummm....dipsh*t, Omaha wouldn't have a problem getting the funding either. It's a matter of ROI. But concepts like that are probably way over your head, so I won't elaborate any further. If Counciltucky wants to kiss the NCAA's arse, more power to them. The inferiority complex you have with Omaha is laughable.

I certainly hope they don't build it over there. Why should CB or Iowa for that matter bail out Omaha's failure to be able to pay for or build a new facility.

I have stated many, many times it needs to stay at the Blatt. Moving it downtown is a mistake a big mistake, the infrastructure of downtown cannot support such a facility without a mass infusion of hundreds of millions of dollars.

If Rosenblatt isn't good enough for the NCAA let them move it out of town. I watch most of the games on television anyway so it doesn't matter to "this sports fan" where the broadcast originates from.

I don't think they view it as bailing out Omaha.

It has nothing to do with "bailing Omaha out."

Stands to reason to revamp Rosenblatt rather than build from scratch. For more reasons than just money, like preserving all the history that has occurred in that stadium since the CWS has been in Omaha.

If it did move it should be billed as the Council Bluffs College World Series, when you pay the bills you get the billing!!!!

LOL, if the Lancers won't even claim that dumpster of a city why would the CWS put their name on it?

Certainly glad that Omaha decided to bankrupt themselves over this debacle!

In a related story, a move is afoot to get a Stuckey's off one of the I-29 exits.
Also, if they can only hope to dream, a Waffle House.

"Perhaps the worst thing that can happen is to reach into the refrigerator and come out with something that you cannot identify at all. You literally do not know what it is. Could be meat, could be cake. Usually, at a time like that, I'll bluff. "Honey, is this good?" "Well, what is it?" "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like...meatcake!" "Well, smell it." (snort, sniff) "It has absolutely no smell whatsoever!" "It's good! Put it back! Somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something." Thats what frightens me. That someone will consider it a challenge and use it just because it's in there." -- George Carlin
